I have not looked through all my magazines yet...my sock yarn and needles just came today (plus my Espirt ....so pretty....I can`t wait to work with it).....anyway...back to the socks I want to do for Christmas gifts....I have never made any toe - up but I would like to....a little bit lacy one....and some for men. stitch gauge of 7 / 8. Just thought I would ask you`all....you guys seem to know just about everything!! Cheryl Weird weather here all day...tornados popping up all over the state....so far not too much damage. TV abc station has had nothing but weather all afternoon!

Hi Cheryl, Once you get the basics down you can use any stitch pattern you like. This is the best and easiest top up sock recipe I know. I usually work top down, but even I can do this toe up http://tinyurl.com/2xqodk
Make sure you also read her advice on how to escape a hole when you join back up to knit in the round. If you are planning on knitting with sock yarn you want to try for 8 stitches per inch. The firmer the gauge the more comfortable the sock is under the foot and the longer it lasts. Hope that helps suzann

There is a free pattern for the Jaywalker sock - toe up version. Sorry I don`t have the link, a google search will find it. Remember when switching from top down patterns that any pattern will also be "toe up" There is a really good cast on for toe up at Knitty http://www.knitty.com/ISSUEspring06/FEATmagiccaston.html
