I am as always blown away by the creativity of this group and all the wonderful projects you all are knitting! I`m half way through the semester with six weeks left. I aced my midterm in one class and paper in the other class and I am praying I can only do as well on the Board examination!

I was able to finish one sweater over spring break only to find I had made it one size too small. Now do I wait until I lose the weight I am swearing I will lose once I pass my Boards, or do I knit a side placard and sew it into each side, or find someone it fits to give it to? But if Bets is keeping count it used up 10 1/2 balls of yarn.

The other good thing that happened this week is that I went by a local library that runs a book sale in the basement. You can get all kinds of books for $1 or $2 bucks. Someone had donated a part of all of their knitting library and I snarffed it up. I was able to get the Rowan Summer/Winter book for 3.50 and Fassett`s Family Album for 4.50, plus a few copies of Vogue from 1986 and 89. I could not believe my good fortune. I probably need to buy a lottery ticket tomorrow!

Anyway, I am glad to hear everyone is doing well, Jean, its great news your son? is coming home, and Benne, I think I`ve said this before, but that husband of yours is a keeper!LOL

I can`t wait until I am fully licensed and done with all of this school stuff and get back to important things like keeping up with all of you wonderful women and knitting, knitting and did I forget to mention KNITTING!!!!

Hi Pat,

Terrific! Big-time congrats! You and Bri are on a roll! The Chartreuse Shepherd will be next with good news, I bet. See, we knew all along knitters are smart cookies.

Wish I been with you at that library sale. You got a couple of good ones. I know you love Kaffe Fassett and can actually knit his patterns! :-} My Mom and Dad used to go to those sales all the time and buy me the classics. They went from the time I was a little kid until their deaths, so you know I`ve got books. But there`s always room for one or two more good knitting books. :-}

If you really love your sweater, keep it and alter it. You can always remove the additons later when you lose the weight. Don`t keep it unaltered if it just one more thing that nags at you about wanting to lose weight.

And yeah, DH is a keeper, but he walks a fine line from time to time. HA!

The visit is going OK - we had her in the City yesterday and walked the legs off her. She got to see lots of the sights and had nice food. Mum`s a bit like a child in that you have to constantly keep her occupied or else she starts getting petulant and picking and picking (she`s watching a movie now, so I sneaked away to the comp). She slept for 15 hours straight we tuckered her out so much - but in a good way. She feels like she`s "doing" things here because we`ve had her out doing at least something each day - so because she`s been so busy she hasn`t really had a chance to get snippy or negative with me. Well, she has once or teice, but I can kind of verbally redirect her. Whereas my relatives in Ottawa that she was staying with for 3 weeks before coming here, and whom she will go back to for a week when she leaves here, just left her sitting around the house all day. My oh my is she pissed at them - which is good for us. She`s so busy bad-mouthing them that we come up smelling of roses, LOL. ;-)

On Thursday we didn`t go out, but T came with Tim and Jonathan and helped me to amuse her all day - thanks T! She loved meeting you and talking your ear off, adored the baby, and thought that Tim was the most patient, polite and impaccably behaved 13-year-old ever. She`s enjoying the Elizabeth Zimmerman book too - it was a great gift because I don`t read any of "her" books (Catherine Cookson-type sagas) and she didn`t bring any thinking she wouldn`t need one.

We were going to take her to the Bronx Zoo today, but she`s tired from yesterday - so just some shopping I think, and we got some comedies to watch with her tonight (LOL, we usually turn our noses up at anything that isn`t independent, foreign language, or both).

OK, signing off - see you later.

Eileen.

Good job wearing out Mum, E. Plus I`m sure she`s enjoying doing things she doesn`t get to do at home and with her daughter too. Great T could come and your Mum got to meet T and the T-men. Now, E, don`t diss your Mum`s choice of reading material. You should be grateful she reads, besides there`s nothing wrong with some escapist reading. Why else would they call those big summer books "beach reads?" lol Oh, and, BTW, after finding out what kind of movies you like, when I host the all-girl knitting/slumber party you do NOT get to pick the movies. HA! You know you gotta have some comedy and chick flicks for those dos. And it could be worse, your Mum could be into porn flicks. ;-}

Eileen, Be happy that your mother is visiting! I know that moms can be terrible at times, but we do our best most of the time. Going places and seeing new things is good fun. I take mystery novels to read on all my trips--even to Salt Spring Island-- and other hand work so I`m always busy!
Glad that all is going well! Jamie

Well, T and the T-men had a terrific time on Thursday, so there! Would you believe E`s mom had ANOTHER sweater all knitted up for Jonathan, this one with a matching little hat? I have to post photos of these as he grows into them...
I am really glad she liked the book, E. I think if you can only have one of EZ`s books, that would be the one - tons of projects, and musing besides, and a few techniques in the back...
We only watch movies set on Submarines together, DH and I...
T, who is awaiting the 4th Harry Potter movie, because unless it is Harry Potter she will never get around to actually going to a movie theater...

Let me add to that-not only does she not get to pick the movie, she`s not allowed to order the pizza either.

Glad it`s going well-you should have sent her to Auntie`s LAST year-

Have you been to Walmart yet? ;-)

Eileen, You sound as though you`ve been following the cardinal rules of mother visits, especially rule #1-- tire them out and rule #2 invite friends over. I love it, even though you are missed. Hope you have fun with her and then get back to life as usual! Bri

Hey all,
It`s not that I`m not thinking about you... I just can`t seem to get my time organized lately. We`ve been traveling a lot and getting ready for Dan`s deployment.
I did get a bucket hat done for Ann on the bus trip to Italy, but I still need to felt it. I did it in Uros (the original one) I think Better Late Than Never has become my new mantra.

Hope everyone had a great Holiday!!

Peace,
Jean

So good to hear from you, Jean. Your plate is very full these days and it`s good to hear that you and your family are traveling and enjoying your days together before Dan`s deployment. I check on your blog each week and try to keep up with your adventures. Better Late Than Never is a superb mantra, keep up the good work! We`ll be thinking of you but miss your input here!
