Trish MMM did a wonderful comparision of the new KP`s vs Addi`s on her blog-- I got Boye Needle-set as a gift when I first started knitting a few yrs ago -- I remember repeatedly having trouble with the screw-in needles unscrewing while working & it was quite a hassle--so I stoppped using them.

I see all the benefits that she does re: the KP tips vs the Addi`s ; but I`m wondering how the KP screw-in join is going to be better than the Boye`s were-- a longer length of screw would certainly help -- but that isn`t apparent in the KP photos --

On the other hand, Denise`s set have a snap-in mechanism that has never failed me by coming apart --- and the tips are almost too sharp -- but, Trish MMM is right, plastic does not feel great in the hands...

I too appreciated Trish MMM`s detailed review, since I`m considering the KP needle set. I tried the Denise a couple years ago, but didn`t like them, my stitches kept getting stuck near the join. I have the Boyes, don`t have a problem with them unscrewing, but they don`t have the slipperiness of Addis, and the cables are stiff. My only concern with the KP`s is I DO push my needle tips occasionally and maybe KP tips would be too sharp. I`ll just have to order a pair and try them out.

Trish, I have the KP modular in all sizes & they are my needles of choice. (Also love the Denise & use them too depending on the fiber.) The KP screw is very long. I had a problem initially with them unscrewing but discovered it was due to my anemic hand strength. Someone who has Boye`s suggested using a rubber kitchen grabber thingy to hold the needle point in one hand while tightening the the little key with the other. Voila! I never had that problem again. In fact, they are a bit hard to UNscrew now. (Need the kitchen grabber again.) Apparently Boye`s people found this trick helps them. BTW the join on the Denise needles are a bit snaggy for me in sizes 5 & 6 so I don`t use them, use the KP`s now.

There has been so much talk about circulars lately. I have found it helpful. I have a bit of a Heinz-57 collection of circulars.

I did buy the Boye set a year or so ago with a 40% off coupon at Michaels. I have never seen Addi`s or Denise in person. The Boye set is useful, but they are not my faves. The needles are smooth and pointy, but they feel very short in my hands. I tend to push against the tip with my finger, trying to unlearn that. I like that you can make a really long cord by joining up two cords in the middle. The join is not particularly smooth there. The join to the needles is okay, and I haven`t had any problem with needles coming unscrewed (the set comes with a rubber grip and keys). One problem I had was with some of the smaller size needles. When I tightened them up with key, the hollow needle part squashed and flared a bit, and I had to flatten it out as best I could with pliers. And then of course, it felt catchy. Circulars are not my favorites to begin with, except in smaller sizes for hats and things.

One of my favorite pairs is a clover bamboo pair.

When Suzie came over, she showed me her Knit Picks needles, and those looked great. The needle part felt smooth and solid, and the cord was more flexible. I would consider getting a set of those for sure.

No experience with the Boye interchangeables but I don`t care for the feel of the regular Boyes.
Denise. They have been my default needles if I did not have a pair available as well as a travel set if thought I might buy yarn and need a needle. They are also good if you need a really long cable, But
Knit Picks -- have become my needle of choice over my lantern moons and bamboos. As long as I use the tightning screw I have no problems. Love the tips and the glide. I believe they will replace my Denises as my travel set, except several of them are "out" on projects. They are not packaged as efficiently as the Denises but they are a better needle, imho.

Denise. I made this choice a couple of years ago based on the comparisons other knitters made to the Boye set, which IMO made the Denise needles a no-brainer. Yep, all the rave reviews of the KP set make them tempting, but remember I`m selling my Addis because the tips are too slick.

I love my Denise set! There are SO many new uses that I keep finding for them. One of the best is binding off: grab a tip that`s the larger size you want to keep the bind-off loose enough. You don`t need an entire needle to do a bind-off; you`re only dealing with 2-3 stitches at a time. OK, I won`t go on, but I`m already ordering another accessory kit, since the cords keep winding up in the UFOs as stitch holders.

I`m with CBM on the Denise needles too. I have 2 sets for knitting with 2 circs. I use them for slickery fibers but they are not sharp enough for me for lace or cables. They do have the KP`s beaten in the convenience dept tho` bc swapping out the points is easier (mid-stream as CBM said) and you can also string a bunch of cords together. In the smaller sizes tho` as I mentioned, 5 & 6, I find the Denise joins too grabby & the cords too thick so primarily use them sz 7 & up. The little case is ingenious too bc you can tell at a glance which points might be missing bc only one needle size will fit in each corresponding slot. And the Densie points are marked with the size. Wish the KP`s were.
