The truth is out-

I can`t keep Soleil because I don`t have any brown shoes. And because I don`t have any brown shoes, I have no brown purses. And I don`t have a pair of blue ones that will look right. And it would look dorky with black.

I`ve spent most of my adult life making sure I had only black, blue, or grey shoes, along with silver colored jewelry. This takes some effort, because apparently, everyone else likes gold jewelry. Even my glasses don`t match my brown hair, they are gunmetal colored (ok, that will match my hair in a few years.)

I don`t want to ruin the deal I have going on here. Am I the only whackjob out here? (Yes, Bets, apparently so!) ;-)

I might have time (if I CRUNCH it) to make Soleil in Rio. But do I want to?

I don`t know the answer bets but your post made me spit coffee on my keyboard! After wiping....could like with a neutral tan or winter white shoe or sandal? Or how about pale pink which is a great "winter" shade?

I can relate as having spent my first 40 years wearing only black & "winter" colors and silver jewelry. The last 10 have been all earth tones, tho` it`s still silver jewelry. Ha.

Good luck!

Okay, Bets. The fashion police is here. I disagree with the shoe matching thing. Fashionista`s/stylists now approach this shoe and bag idea very differently than in the past. Your accessories are supposed to "pop". They don`t and even shouldn`t match. Anyway, from the photo, it looks like your greys would do nicely. Or better yet, buy a pair of inexpensive flip flops, get a pedicure and off you go! Have fun.

Oh, good thinking, Donna-

I can always use a pair of pink flip-flops! (It`s a bit of a time crunch on the pedicure, tho!)

I agree with donna. Plus we`ve had this conversation already. there are so many other colors in there that you could use anything. Girlfriend don`t make me come over and buy you some pink flip flops. LOL

I just went looking in my burb`s finest-Payless and Wallyworld. And you know-----I hated them all. I`ll check again when I have more time, but I am a shoe snob.

Fortunately, I remembered there IS another toe place in town that I generally don`t go to because I think it`s nasty. My toes are now an appropriate color.

Girl, you need to quit obsessing about brown! If my shoes or purse match what I`m wearing, it`s a total accident. Well, it is pretty hard to accessorize sweat pants and cotton shorts. ;-}
Stop being a shoe snob, nobody will care what kind of shoes you`re wearing. Trust me on this. All you have to worry about is comfort. I think you might be a whack job about this. ;-}

I`ve got an idea: why don`t you take a favorite pair and color them with some dye??? You can get the dye at the shoemaker, and it works great! This way, you can gradually ease into a color with the feel of something familiar but TOTALLY new. IMHO, I think you should step out of the box, Bets...in a BIG way...go a bluish-purple! Dare ya!

No, that IS what I am obsessing about-comfort! Do you realize that I am down to about 3 pairs that I rotate thru because my feet hurt so much? I tried a pair on that felt....ok. But they looked like HELL on a sandwich. They were on sale, even, and I had to walk away, because you should NOT pay for ugly.

Billie, it`s hard to dye black shoes!!!

(Dang, ok, look, I`ve made BIG progress today. I flipped Soleil around, so I can wear it backwards, my toes have polish on them....)

I think I`ll go for the earlier choice...nutjob!

Here`s an idea: why not commit to ONE decent, comfortable pair of shoes, sandals or whatever in a nice earthtone that doesn`t make you retch. Birkenstocks are veeeeery comfy. Put your money where your mouth is, and then you can open the door to all kinds of yummy yarns with said earthtones in them. You`ve already slid partway down the slope with Sheena and now this lovely lilac/brown mix (mmmm gorgeous). Go for it -- you`ve got the right hair and colouring. Maybe this is a whole new world of civvy dressing for you.

Birkenstocks? That IS the problem-I just looked over at the door and counted seven pair, and that`s not counting DH`s. They are ALL blue, black, or grey. I think DH tossed my brown ones. I also own a pair of SAS flats, two pairs of Clarks, and a few pairs of Naturalizers.
I am at work roughly 75 hours at week (on my feet), and don`t have time to go very far to look, and have a VERY low "they don`t fit me very well" tolerance.

Fine, I will wear DD`s Soleil flipped around back to front. I`ll be the one in the white socks. ;-)

In the white socks and sweating! I talked with my close friend in Philly, and she couldn`t even lie and say it was cooler than here!

Alright, everyone, we will take care of this... On Friday, Daryl Bri and I will decide whether this requires a full scale intervention or not, and help Betsy find a sane way out of the shoe dilemma.

I con`t think I can get her to adopt my Great-Grandmother`s solution, which was clear plastic decorated with rhinestones, but I can try...

T, with the evil grin...

Oh ugh, T, my grandma wore those too, and even bought me a pair when I was, like, eight years old. I was a tom-boy. Barf!

Betsy, blue, grey and black Birks ARE the problem. Birks are NOT the problem (clearly, since you so obviously love to wear them). Get a pair of BROWN ones. You`re not a high maintenance girl, are you?? LOL

You know, all this ruckus stems from ME wearing a shirt I made for DD. There is no reason for me to buy brown shoes.

is a pretty good example.

I completely understand the comfortable shoe thing! Try Dansko or Born for comfortable and reasonably stylish sandals. I have three pairs of Dansko Liv (now discontinued) sandals in three different colors and I have been wearing them for at least 3 to 5 summers now. They are a little expensive, but you can sometimes find them on sale and they are worth every penny for comfort and quality. I don`t know if it`s true of all of their styles, but mine were made in Portugal and are extremely well made and durable.

That said, I am coveting your Soleil and thought I might want to make it for myself. Though I love the style of a sleeveless tank, I feel self-conscious of my flabby arms! I made the Skacel Sirenetta top that was a free pattern here last summer and have barely worn it because of my arms. They`re not that bad, but I`m not as thin or in shape as I`d like to be!
