Eileen, I apologize for being short. I`m in so much pain I can barely move. Everyone`s gone away to our family reunion just when I need help. I tried to send you my info for the yarn, but it came back. Will you just send me an e-mail to me? GreggyC51462@aol.com As for Darla, I couldn`t impose on her. And you neither. I want to pay youfor the yarn. Sorry, I can`t type more.

I assume you are talking about the "Zoom" from an earlier conversation. It is one strange yarn!! I used mine up in a tank top. It is alot like a pot scrubby, but it looks neat. Several people have asked me if they could touch it. It maybe has a better use than clothing; I just don`t know.
Gregg, sorry to hear you are feeling so poorly. Hope today is a better day.

Thanks Darla. I`m just back online for the first time today. I fell last week and whacked my head pretty good. I have the big "C". LOL Serves me right. I should never get out of bed.<----major sarcastic remark. So, I`ve been out of commission with this concussion for some days now. I`m still trying to knit. I`m just about to put the sleeves on my sweater. I`m so excited about this. I can`t wait to wear it. Hope you and all are doing well.

So you just casually mention that in the magazine it was a sleeveless pullover - do you realize lots of us have palpitations at the thought of adding buttonholes, never mind sleeves? It is fantastic and I hope your mom loves it. and, I repeat, I am old enough to be your mom...;}

Oh Eileen, you clever girl! I love that pattern and want to know how you adapted it for long sleeves. Give up the details, girly. lol That is so beautiful. Your mum will be thrilled and of course, very proud of her astoundingly brilliant daughter. :-} Benne

I love the colors....and the sleeves....I love the way they are slightly flared out but not to overdone so they hang to much and get in the way! Your mom is going to love it!!!! Cindy

Oh yes, those bell sleeves are ALL THE RAGE among the schoolgirls out here in California! Those are the very sleeves that are the epitome of High style just now! Ditto the flare at the waist. But that`s not to suggest the look would EVER be "dated," since it`s been making its pretty little appearance on and off since the 1300`s!
I am really fascinated by the stitch pattern... what stitch is that? It`s lovely. Did it make the sweater more bulky than lacey? Or did the waves and eyelets neutralize each other?

Your mom will be thrilled! Does she knit too? How long does it take for a parcel to be sent to her? What gorgeous colours and your adaptation from sleeveless shell to cardigan AND sleeves, terrific! Les

You know what Girlies - this is a really great project - because it even fools knitters into thinking it was a LOT more complicated than it was! LOL
The sleeves weren`t the problem - they were a cinch, with no shaping. Just cast on 71 sts (that`s 7 wave repeats), work the desired length (in this case 100 rows), then follow the cap shaping of the back. That will leave you with 33 sts. On row 120, you work it straight, rows 121 and 122 cast off 3, rows 123 and 124 cast off 4, row 125, cast off remaining stitches. It is the scalloped crochet stitch around the bottom and sleeves that gives it the flared look.
It was actually the front that gave me the most bother - it needed to be 11 repeats wide. After a bit of tinkering, though, I was able to work out that you can do a half repeat on either side, so that when the cardigan is closed, it more or less fits together to look like a whole repeat. I`m thinking of putting one button at the top - saw a gorgeous one on the site you recommended, MacChick - what do you think? http://www.buttondrawer.com/Fashion_Products.asp?SC_id=1 - it`s the one called Cantata-D.
Look up the pattern in your Spring Knitter`s mag, MacChick - it shows up much better in white than in the multi-colour. The sweater ended up not being bulky at all, because there isn`t actually any cabling - it`s all done with eyelets and decreases. It ended up being very drapey in the cotton, even moreso after blocking.
Les, my Mum knits too - she taught me to knit when I was 5 and I still have an aran cardi that I wear that she made for my dad before I was born. However, she is VERY stuck in her ways - you don`t realise over here the wealth of resources you have compared to elsewhere. She doesn`t knit with anything other than acrylic, and those grey aluminium needles. The knitted cast on is the only one she knows - and indeed was the only one I knew until I came here and realised that there were a gazillion different ways to do it. She has never seen a knitting mag or book in her life. SO - I`m REALLY looking forward to when she visits in September - there will be so much to share with her!!
The sweater isn`t being sent to her yet, I`m thinking about keeping it until she comes over, and entering it in the State Fair this August. T and I figured we would have to enter things. I never knew what I State Fair was until I moved here to Syracuse before Christmas - and of course the NY one is held in the town where I now live! Don`t ask me about any results though - if I post nothing about it, you`ll know that someone else won. If T and I win anything, be assured, you`ll hear about it! LOL
There are some clearer pics of the cardi in the June album of my gallery page - T, our Mayland pics are there too, in case you never saw them what with your computer acting up. http://uk.f1.pg.photos.yahoo.com/ph/eileen_beggs/my_photos

Hey E,
Thanks for the sleeve info. I want to make it as a pullover. That is my favorite pattern in that issue. Glad to see you didn`t make it entirely see-through for your Mum. lol Of course, you and T will win, that is unless someone bribes the judges. ;-} I think you should put together a goodie kit of cool knitting stuff for you mum when she comes in September. We should brainstorm on this and come up with a list. I`ll be happy to contribute some neat things for her kit. Maybe I`ll post a query about this and get ideas from all our elann girlfriends, what do you think? Benne

Eileen,
Can I be related to you too? This looks terrific! Your mom is going to love it! Good for you entering it-but if you enter it, will your mom be able to show it at HER church fair?
(I know Chris is practically slobbering over it, she was admiring the pattern this weekend!)

Hmmm, good question, Bets - I think her church fair is in late September or earl;y October, so hopefully she can take it home with her after she`s been here, and be there in the nick of time to enter it.
THEN it could be shamelessly touted round any fair going after that, and we can become affectionately known here as The Fair Whore Cardigan! LOL

Wonderful sweater-how long did it take to knit it? You are a very fast, talented, prolific knitter and I am hoping you win the PRIZE at the fair. HeatherL.

Eileen, Thank you so much for such a quick response. I`ve downloaded it and saved it to a CD, so I won`t lose it while I mess with my computer trying to restore lost things. I really appreciate this enormously.
Thanks again,
Christine
