Ann of afghans for Afghans emailed me this weekend about their most recent goal to send 5,000 garments to clothe 5,000 Afghan girls and boys for the winter. Their deadlines of September 16th for Canadian donations and September 26th for US donations are looming large, and they are still quite a way from their goal of 5,000 all-wool (i.e. warm!) garments. The Canadian deadline for sending garments via elann.com looks too tight now, but I`m thinking that there might still be time for knitters whip up a hat for the US deadline of Sept 26th. Donations can be mailed directly to: afghans for Afghans c/o AFSC Collection Center 65 Ninth Street San Francisco, CA 94103 MacChick has generously given us permission to post her and her mother`s Moriarty Hat pattern in the Elann Free Patterns Section at http://secure.elann.com/ShowFreePattern.asp?Id=88024 Let`s spread the word!

I made one last week, for no one in particular. (It was 97 degrees outside.) Guess it has a home now.

Ann,
Is the address the same throught the year? This way the people that missed the deadline this year are able to plan to knit a hat for next year and then send it to them. Also if we miss the deadline but still have a hat can we send it to them anyway and it will still get there?

The address is the same all year, and a4A does gratefully accept donations anytime. Their deadlines are important, however, as for each deadline date, shipping service to Afghanistan has been donated, and not meeting the goal and filling the donated shipping container means a lost opportunity.
