What matching mohair? Why didn`t I see this? How did I miss that?

I opened up the page and said "ohhh!" Pretty indeed, even in wretched mustard, and that is high praise.

Good job Bets! Your enabling pushed me over the edge and I got some of today`s offering. Not a lot but enough to add some wild interest to a project or two.
YOU`RE good Bets!

has anyone else been lusting over the Baby Alpaca / merino. Such a good price. I might have to break down and buy a few balls to make another FB shawl (for sale this time). What color do you think would be best? I wonder if anybody will want to buy a $150.00 shawl (after my labor that`s what I`d have to charge).

I would pay that for a FB shawl out of Baby alpaca/merino. That pattern is just gorgeous.

Corinna,

Shui Kuen steered me to a pattern in Knitters Fall (2001, I think-there`s a couple on the front with Noro sweaters....) anyhow, it`s a Lily Chin shawl that might actually go quick enough for you to make it worth your while. Do you have the issue?

I just saw the peeks and I was thinking that the color "rosie" looks very much like a "ballet pink" that a certain Ellanite is know to love!

On my monitor it looks more like cotton-candy pink... ballet pink is more peachy or "blush" oe "shell" pink. It`s a really pretty color, though... would look good enough to eat if trimmed with white!

You can get a good look at the Pakucho at the peeks page. I`s so excite they have 3 greens this year. But I did compare my Avacado with the present sample and it`s a bit lighter in color. I like the darker but can live with the lighter! Now - how many of each skein can I afford?

I am going to wear my little snippets out just feeling of them. lol I like the natural, sage, and vicuna. I`ll have to pick just one color - probably end up getting the vicuna or natural but I WANT green too! :-}

Corinna,

How many skeins of it did you use for that great poncho you made last year? I`m very curious as to how much of this yarn that one took (not including the fringe).

It took about 8 skeins if I remember correctly. 6 of the green and 2 of the cream. I can`t remember if I had to use part of a skein to finish the fringe. So it`s possible that I used 9. But the poncho is HUGE! It could easily be scaled back a bit. I`m pretty sure I used size 7 needles to begin and went to bigger ones like you suggested to open the lace more.

As far as projects. Keep in mind it is a very soft yarn which makes it very drapey. If you need a stiffer fabric you need to double the strands or go to a smaller needle. I basically buy it not for myself but to make things to sell. Since I sell at organic farmer`s markets the Organic, Color Grown, Hand Artisian, etc. story sells well and my customers know why it`s special. I make handbags, scarves, hats, etc to sell out of it. I`m thinking this year of trying a very airy, open, and smaller poncho to sell. I priced last year`s at full retail for the yarn plus about 25 hours of my labor. The price came to $200.00. Lots of people looked but nobody bought so now it`s mine (go figure - they`ll pay $35.- $45 for a small handbag). Since I now do lace knitting I`m thinking of doing some lace scarves this year too.

Your poncho is beautiful and a steal at the money. The junky poncho`s they had at the shops were priced sky high. I love the color of yours.People amaze me. They will go to a high end department store and pay mucho bucks for something machine made. In unorginal colors and design. And think they have gotten something wonderful. Yet will balk at paying half that for a handmade item in a lovely soft yarn. go figure

I bet this yarn would work nicely for one of the capelets or shrugs in the last Interwearve Knits.
Although I am supposed to be on a yarn diet, I think I will have to cave on this one :)

That info is perfect. Thanks. I agree, the poncho you made is really big, ans that *may* be part of the reason it didn`t sell... or it may be that the poncho was just meant for you... Gosh, what a tease for others if you wore that (on a cool breezy day) and had some smaller ones for sale!

When I did the Beach Poncho last year out of Arucania, which I`m guessing is similar in that it is a big gauge and soft (just a little bigger and not nearly as nice or soft), I found that it took about 10 balls and doing it in all stockinette made a VERY heavy poncho, so I don`t want to do that with Pakucho. On the other hand, I was finding 6 skeins of the Classic Elite Attitude (little bit smaller guage) was making nice lace ponchos with 3 and a half skeins for a kid and just a little over 5 for a grownup.

So I`m thinking about 6 of the Pakucho and a stitch with a short repeat in a diamond pattern, like English Mesh.

What kinds of hats did you make with it? You need to take more pictures, girl, I LOVE your knitting!

I can see it would be great for handbags, but I`m more likely to put it into wearables, because it`s so soft... oh, I am SO excited!
