Gail-
Congratulate her! That probably took forever!!! I found a pattern for an IV wrist cover-picture a mitten with no thumb and no hand section- in the IN KNITTERS charity knitting supplement for 2003. They are at inknitters.com. You`d probably have to modify it, and make an attached "sock toe" type covering, but it might be close to what you want.

Check out the Broad Street Mittens at Knitty. They sound just like what you are looking for.

Betsy, Thanks for your nice thoughts. Eileen seems to enjoy the job and the benefits are good. She is raising three teenagers alone (my son passed away 3 years ago) and this job is really important to her..and she`s really important to me so I like to do little special things for her. P.S. I got another answer to my request and it was exactly what I wanted. What a nice network! God bless and Happy Holidays. Thanks again. Gail

I am about to begin my Ab Fab throw and in reading the abbreviations I don`t understand a part of the pattern. The yfrn (yarn forward and round needle) is confusing to me. Does it mean when you bring the yarn forward bring it over the needle (increasing one stitch)? I`ve become paranoid about making this. Thanks in advance.

I don`t have the pattern, but one way to tell if they want you to wrap the yarn around the needle is what haappens to it next. If there is a HUGE hole on the next row, or a "knit and Purl" into the one yarnover, then they probably want you to wrap it all the way around. If the hole is about the size of one stitch, they probably want you to just bring it forward and wrap to the back...
When knitting lacy things the EXACT way to make the yarnover sometimes becomes more of an issue than it strictly has to be. Why don`t you figure out what one repeat of the pattern is and make a nice big swatch - IN THIS CASE it does not have to be in the terrifically nice yarn - any bulky you have left over would do. It would show you what the pattern is looking like. As long as you like it and are not in a situation where it will keep getting wider and wider and wider with each row, it doesn`t matter if it is exactly the yarnover intended.
After all, it is YOUR blankie!

I am just in a pickle! I`ve made several scallop afghans, many years ago and I think I am having a senior moment. Here are the instructions and I can not get past P2 tog 3 times!!! Maybe a light bulb will go on (I doubt it because I`ve been reading these directions for 2 days).
K2 *(p2tog) 3 times, yon, k1, (yfwd, k1)4 times, yfrn (p2tog)3 times.
If my yarn is forward I can`t make a knit stitch. I just feel so dumb!

Patricia-

I went and looked at my knitting books, and well, I`m stumped! How about writing Colinette for clarification? There may be a link from their site....

Hi Patricia,
If you`re having a senior moment, I am too. I puzzled over this, knitted it several ways and either came out one stitch short or one stitch too many. I finally put it away until after Christmas because of WIPS for gifts. I got out all of my books and tried to figure it out. I`ve made a lot of scallop and feather and fan stitch items and I`ve never had this problem. I wondered if it was a difference in European terms. Please post what you find out. If we can`t get info I am going to make my own sequence. As a sage here intoned, "after all, it IS my blankie!"

Yes it is my blankie, well not really as I am making it as a gift, well maybe a gift.... I`d play with the pattern some but since it is a kit I would be afraid that I`d run out of yarn. I did send Colinette an email but the reply I received was "Yes, that is correct", "hope this was helpful"...... I think Fran made this throw, Fran are you out there?

I too have knitted several of these types of afghans, although it has been quite awhile since I`ve made one. I too would make my own pattern but I am fearful of running out of yarn. I`ve emailed a fellow knitter in England and hopefully she can shed some light on it for me. I will post what I find out! Glad I am not the only one having a problem, although it seems I`ve been having more than my share lately! I ordered a Hanne Falkenberg kit and it was short one color of yarn! I`ve emailed the store several times since Friday and haven`t heard back yet.

Patricia,
Now I feel like getting it out again and giving it one more shot-hate to let anything get the best of me. I`ll let you know if I figure the___thing out. Great that Colinette was so helpful. The yarn is so yummy I couldn`t wait to start on it and I really felt the fool since they said is was easy!

Pat...
Sounds like Colinette has changed their instructions in the past year. Basically, the AbFab is a 17 stitch shale, P2tog 3times, yo, (K1, yo) 5 times, P2tog 3 times was the way it was in my pattern. Or you can simply go to your Barbara Walker for the 18 stitch shale...In my AbFab kit, only one hank came really close to running out (I don`t fringe, tho), so you`ll have to decide which way to go.

Thanks Fran, this makes sense. I bought a copy of FCEK last night and there is a glossary of U.K. terms. YO in U.S. means yfwd, yon, yrn in U.K. I ordered this kit from someone in the U.K. so I am thinking that maybe I received U.K. instructions. Can not thank you enough, I will probably be able to finish it by Christmas.

Hi Patricia and Fran,
You are absolutely right about the pattern. I stayed up late last night and figured out that the YON is just a YO. I worked several rows and it worked out great. Now I can`t wait to try it on the real yarn. It`s a relief to find my trial and error confirmed by you both. Knit on!

Okay I feel like an idiot but for the life of me I can`t remember how to finish a knit edge with a single crochet. I`ve only done it once and can`t find the instructions for the tank I did. Please reply.
Thanks
