Shui Kuen,
If Bets is like I am, she cannot wait to see what wondrous things you make with your alpaca. Your knitting is absolutely breathtaking and my guess is that your jam is beautiful too. The thoughts of it are making me hungry. :-} Your talents are many and you inspire me with all you do. I know what you mean about the old days, we had so little but were still happy. I found some skeins of old yarn I bought in those days recently and it came from a discount store, an awful acrylic and it cost $1.77 for 400 yards. I used it for lots of things and didn`t know any different, just happy to be knitting and making things for those I loved. BB gets special praise for loving and wearing his vest, and wanting to give you the things you could not have before. He`s a treasure and so is my Thom. We are indeed fortunate that we have mates who want to buy us the things that bring us joy and that we couldn`t afford in earlier times. And you`re right, a night on the town costs a lot more than good yarn and then it`s gone but our yarn and projects are still around. And there`s no hangover from knitting! lol
So, I add to my list of good things, getting to know you and seeing your knitting and animals. And many thanks to Ann for having this place we can all meet and share our love of knitting and life. Benne

Shui Kuen, I think you deserve every bit of yarn that you buy! For one thing, you are such a productive knitter and for another thing, your projects turn out beautifully. Also compared to say, going out to the movies, or to a restaurant or my husband`s latest speeding ticket ($130,grrr...), yarn purchases, especially discounted online, are not extravagant. Sandra

Sandra:You make me feel better. I had been many times told by my friend (she is a therapist for people having drinking problem or family problem) that I had a sickness of compulsive buying (yarn). Shui Kuen

SHUI KUEN!
LOL...I just wanted to know what you have planned for forty-eight balls of alpaca!!!!! I buy too much yarn, I cannot afford to send you to a shrink!
I guess that is the most pleasurable part of knitting-all other posts have danced around it, but while you are pleading to me not to have you committed to the provincial hospital, you hit it right on the head! When I knit for other people, I think of them! That is the essence of joy for me!
I understand completely about the have not years-my colleague and I had the same discussion today. We know what it is to "have not"-I remember working 40 hours a week for 2.90 an hour, paying rent, paying for my car, gas, and insurance, and being VERY mad that my boss (the cheapskate) telling me I could buy good clothes from thrift sales. I have no problem hearing that from anyone else but the man who pays my salary!
I can do all the same things (except it`s been a while since I fileted a salmon) and a sense of accomplishment is very satisfying! Ok, well, I may be lying about the house-cleaning, and my garden has been sadly neglected since I am in here talking to you. (This IS wonderful-I now have FRIENDS with the same interests!)
Please tell me what you have planned for that glorious cloud of alpaca!
I wish you ANOTHER 48 balls of alpaca!

Shui Kuen, Some of call ourselves "fiberholics" but if that`s what we are, it is harmless addiction. My ex BIL visited yesterday and commented that I had more yarn in one place than he had ever seen. No one doubts what my interests are when they visit my house, but I am happy not to have "serious" addictions which indeed hurt ourselves and those around us. Your knitted work is so absolutely gorgeous. Please enjoy buying and having some smooth, warm yarn with which you will create beautiful projects. I loved reading that you think of those you are knitting for while you make them knitting items. I have few people to knit for, but that is also so for me when I used to knit more for my DDs and older brother and his wife. Happy knitting, Jamie

You`re very welcome Shui Kuen! Does it look like something a man would/could wear? I want to rib the bottom and cuffs-I really like the look of it, and wanted to make it for my husband.

Bets: give the sweater a good man`s color, it will look extremely good. You have to ask your DH whether he likes it or not. My DH only likes plain old fashion sweater. I myself like to try some thing new. Thank you again for the pattern. shui Kuen

Hi!
I wanted to surprise him. I thought it was really nice looking, and a little bit different. I bought the Forest Heather for it. My husband`s favorite sweater is a shawl collared sweater the kids and I made 6 years ago.

Thanks, he`s still rebelling, Shui Kuen. He ASKED for another sweater, which is an amazing thing! That bagged wool is great with a little Noro to liven things up. He bought me 6 bags for Christmas-that is the only yarn I`ve ever bought over 100 balls of!

Bets: My DH is a sweater man also. He was asking for a felted vest yesterday. I told him that will be too heavy. I like the light, warm, and soft ones. He is going to have a uros pullover next. I just wonder whether we are getting Uros this time, it is very much like bag sale HW, nice yarn. Shui Kuen

He likes the Uros, Shui Kuen? I ordered some last time in the Palm colour thinking of a sweater for DH, but when I swatched it I thought it looked too fuzzy to be masculine - maybe not though, if your DH is willing to try it. What colours did you get??

Shui Kuen-
If you make something with the bag wool, try a little experiment with a leftover bit. I fulled mine by throwing it in the dryer-you might try a pot on the stove-if you can take this yarn to a stage BEFORE felt, it will be an EXTREMELY dense fabric, but still VERY flexible. I had the row gauge wrong when I input the sweater into the computer, so I had to do it, but he likes it so much at the fulled stage.
Benne told me that UROS is just like this yarn, and if that`s the case, sign me up!

hahahaha!
I still can`t believe they almost made me to do a customs form for 2 lousy teabags!!! Tell me what you think about the flavor.
The salesman only gave me a few samples. I went to the warehouse and Bought a lot of that stuff today, and I pulled a case for "promotional purposes." Does Ceylon Tea flavored with Rose sound good to you? Organic Earl Grey? Herbals?
I think I`ve figured out my way around the US postal system and "foreign" shipments. If I can stuff it in an envelope, it`s MUCH faster than stuffing it in a box! I mailed a bag to my cousin`s little girl in Tokyo-it took 10 days in an envelope. I have never been able to mail a box to them that took less than 6 weeks!
BTW, the little aluminum clasp in the back of the envelope costs extra.
Moral of the story-Shui Kuen, I`ll only mail you flat things. Tell me what kind of tea you want, I`ll send you some, just don`t be surprised if the box is smashed flat to get it into the envelope.

LOL - I can hear it now - "Marc? Ma-a-a-rc - Honey, I need you to back the car over this box of teabags...." Just don`t try sending BB and Shui Kuen vintage wine tht way, Bets! T
