We sorted, counted, and packed all the knitted, quilted, and assorted other items on Friday and Saturday for the Dorcas bales for communities in Northern B.C. For those who do not know about this project, the Anglican Church Women on Vancouver Island and the Gulf Islands send Christmas bales to needy parishes in Caledonia (Queen Charlotte Islands across northern B.C. to Pouce Coupe near the Alberta border), which contain new knitted sweaters, toques, mitts, scarves, for the children, baby sets, layettes for new mothers, afghans, quilts, and `joy bags` with necessities for people suddenly going into hospital, or leaving their homes unexpectedly for other reasons. We mailed them from Salt Spring on Monday - so they are on their way.
I`m certainly getting better at this - thanks to a friend with a camper van, we brought everything still in storage in Victoria to my house on Thursday, and collected helpers along the way. Thinking that assistance from people under 50 would be good, I told my children well in advance that I would need help. It worked! John even rounded up two friends to come, too. One guy became really good at bundling up layettes - he`s a grad student from Germany and I`d love to hear how he explains the `adventure` to his mother.
Many, many thanks to those of you who contributed yarn, and to our local funeral director, if by any chance he reads this, for contributing the boxes for mailing. I didn`t need to buy any yarn for the knitters for this year and I have a good stash all ready to make into kits to be knit up for the 2005 mailing. Donated yarn is really appreciated, and a big help.

Hurrah for you and your Dorcas group, Alice! It sounds like besides helping so many people, you all had fun too. I love it that your son and his friends showed up and helped out.
I have more yarn for you. Do you want me to hold it until later or would you like it mailed now? Benne

Glad that you were able to summom up lots of helpers - it must be quite the task to get even the lists made up for each area and keep track of the finished items let alone get it all parcelled up! Good going - it must have been a relief to leave the post office! Hope you and your helpers had a good celebration! BTW - I`m having a visit later today from Margie who visited in SPI!! She had business in Calgary this week and called. Les

Bravo, Alice! You are a great manager to get kits set up and distributed to so many knitters, then to organize to intake and get it all sent off. I can picture your house full of piles of all these items. How lucky the Dorcas group is to have you in charge. It`s great to have a couple of notes from you here. Happy knitting, Jamie

Well Alice, I was hoping to get my package of sweaters over to you for this year`s shipment, but I guess I missed the deadline. I could use this as a good excuse to pop over to your Island during the holidays (maybe I could get Heather L. on the way for lunch!)
And if no one has told you let me be the first, you are a very special angel right here on earth!
Cheryl
