Hi,

This is my first posting...hope no one minds that I`m jumping right in!

I need to hear from someone who has `felt` the Highland Wool. I`d like to use it to make pillows for a couple of genuine couch potatoes. The pillow will be used to lay around on...is the yarn soft enough for that or do you think it`s too `scratchy` for this?

Thanks!
Joyce

Everyone here just loves people jumping right in - if anyon else out there is sitting on the fence, please get up and dive! That said, there is a post about felted mitts with HW only a few posts away from yours - if you have not seen it yet, look. I have not done it, but all reports are that it is lovely and soft and felts verynicely....

Hi Joyce, Welcome! Felted materials, whether fabric that is called felt, or knitted work that is felted by washing in a machine, is never a smooth finish (at least not in my experience), but that doesn`t mean that it won`t be great for pillows. A tightly knit surface would be smmother than a felted surface. Just my opinion. Happy knitting, Jamie

I`ve felted many swatches and 3 small purses with the HW. Each color felted slightly differently. I`d try a swatch of the color(s) you were planning to use and see if you liked it.
I think it would make a great felted pillow.

Did you mean someone who has `felt` it as someone who has touched it? That was the meaning I got, that you didn`t intend to felt it, but you just wanted to know about its hand and if it is soft to the touch. If this is the case, we can all shout to you unanimously that it would be soft enough for pillows! DH has the pickiest skin ever, and even he keeps rubbing the sweater I`m doing him in the HW against his face because it`s so soft.

Why don`t you get a ball or two to try first, if you`re still in two minds?

Oh, and WELCOME, by the way! LOL

Eileen.

I would like to hear from people who have made sweaters with the highland wool or highland wool chunky. Is there an excessive amount of pilling? enough to stop you from knitting sweaters with it again?

Hi Hazel,

Yes the wool pills but it doesnt stop me from knitting with it. I have made 4 sweaters out of it and am currently working on a 5th and I really like this wool.

It pills but the little bobbly bits are easy to remove. Ehen I knit it tighter rather than looser there seems to be less pilling. It`s great to knit with.

I haven`t had any more problems with it pilling than any other wool yarn. It`s still my favorite wool yarn. I love the way it feels when I knit it and I love the drape. It felts beautifully also.

Peace,
Jean

I love the Highland wool, very soft, good hand and as Jean said, great drape. Like Alice, I knit mine at a tighter gauge and I haven`t had any major pilling issues.

Hi tziporah, ACB said it`s coming in October. Usually when a restocking is done, all of the colors on the color cards are stocked. Someone from elann may see this and have more info for you. Don`t you love that huge pallette of colors? :-}

Do you know whether there will be new colors coming or a change in colors? My Highland Wool Shade Card says 2006/2007 on it. Just wondering if the colors will change for 2007/2008, and will we need to get a new Shade Card for next year?
