I finished the sweater for DD based on MacChick design. It was really fun to make. First time I ever knitted a yoke sweater. Frogged the top twice - mostly because I wasn`t paying attention.
I couldn`t get my brain wrapped around the instructions for the simultaneous 2 sleeves on 2 circs (the instructions were fine, it was me that didn`t get it) So I did the sleeves one at a time on 2 circs. Now I understand and would use the method again.
The bad news is - she won`t wear it (never mind that is red). I think it is a combination of toddler stubborness and a too loose neck. Don`t think I`ll re-do it quite yet. We`ll see what happens.

T, you made me laugh too. A good belly laugh makes my day complete. Scullyknits, who know the mind of a 2-year old? Tell her Elmo and Cookie Monster love little red tops made by mommies for their little girls. :-}

Perhaps a colored elastic cord run thru the neck? T`s post gives me this vision of Miss M dressed in football gear, with huge shoulder pads. !!

Oh gosh, that is ADORABLE!!!! I really really LOVE IT!!!! Your vine lace is so much more perfect than mine was... look at those perfect columns!!! Nice color choices, too.

Don`t feel bad about the neck... it`s worse to have a neck that is too tight and won`t fit over their heads. I think adding a ties around the neck sounds adorable! Another option, if you want to make it smaller without ripping, is to make it a double collar. Use some of the lighter color yarn, pick up the stitches around the neck where the light and dark meet, knit a few more rounds, decreasing down to the size you want, then add a collar just like the last one. The new one will lay on top of the old one, but a bit higher. To see if you like the effect, try cutting out the shape of it in paper and making a little double collar top on a paper doll.

My daughter wears her vine lace sweater MOST in the winter, over a pink turtleneck... maybe Miss M will like hers that way, too. Another option my daughter likes is using the vine lace sweater to extend the wearable season of some of her sleeveless summer dresses... if she puts one on and I say "It`s too cold out for sleeveless," she just adds the vine lace sweater over the top, and announces that it isn`t a sleeveless outfit anymore. The vine lace sweater is also good to stuff in a beach bag and throw on over a bathing suit... I`ve found it very versatile because the Sonata is so indestructible. Yet look how gorgeous your sweater is! Oh! You just HAVE to make a valentine with that picture in it!

How did Miss M like seeing herself on the little column of knitting photos at elann.com? Did you show her yet? She`s on at the same time as PLB and Chicklet, too!

Thank you all for your nice comments on my Sonata Sweater. I really enjoyed working on it. Probably the best feature of the Sonata is I found I didn`t need a cable needle. I could slip the stitches off the needle and they would just sit there nicely, without popping out, while I picked them back up in the cable pattern. What a timesaver.

Sandra: In the mag, the sleeve was just one double cable and the rest was the rib pattern. I did the sleeve like the closeup part with a lace panel in the center and cables on each side, going down into the v at the cuff.

Marta: This sweater is for me. I usually wear it over a white turtleneck which shows up the eyelet work better.

Bets, PatW: I`m finding in these magazines that I`m looking more closely at design elements than at overall garments. This sweater was on a child and it was horribly oversized and didn`t look very flattering.

MacChick: The color is chamois. Of course I was sure I was going to run out of yarn, bought more when the restock came in and now have leftovers.

Thanks again for all your kind words.
