That`s the amount of red ponytail I lopped off the back of my head yesterday in a fit of hair boredom! Eeeek! LOL

Actually, to be honest, my husband didn`t even notice when he came home - until I dangled the chopped ponytail in front of him, and gave him the scissors to make him even it up at the back! It`s still a good bit past my shoulders and it grows really quickly. If I put my hand behind my back and reach up, it`s about at the bottom of my shoulder blades - so still plenty long! I think it needed it, if you know what I mean - it`s well conditioned, but the conditioner makes it heavy. I though my hair was starting to thin and was panicking, but now there`s less of it, I think it looks back to normal - it was just being dragged down by its own weight!
DH cut it about 2 years ago right up to my shoulders, and it was down to my waist (though I trimmed it before I went to Maryland,a nd there have been other trimmings in between) - so I know it`ll grow back quickly! LOL

Eileen,
You know you have enough hair there to make fake bangs and put them on a headband to wear when you want to go Mary Quant Lulu style. lol B2

Eileen,
Can you imagine how scary it would be to see that headband laying on the floor or your dresser?! I would have it stomped into powder before I realized it wasn`t a big hairy spider/snake in disguise! lol Benne

I think it wants to be a little Pebbles topknot, with a plastic bone, though, in deference to Eileens delicate sensiblities....

There is a group that collects such lovely hair and donates it to make wigs for cancer victims. A friend cut his waist length hair and made a donation.

Hi Scullyknits,
It`s called Locks of Love and if I ever cut my hair I am going to send it to them. Corinna talked about sending them her hair too. To use Eileen`s hair, they`d need to find someone Irish, her hair is such a lovely bright red. :-} Benne

Are you happy with it? I had one shearing like that, and it was totally accidental-glad you chose yours!

Eileen,
Your hair is beautiful. I hope you will consider donating it to that women`s cancer group. It must feel much lighter! patw

Och Feck! I contacted Locks of Love and they have a 10 inch minimum - if I had have known that I would have lopped off a couple of extra inches!
Bear that in mind, Corinna, if you get shorn!
Eileen.

Well, Eileen, as familiar with the 19th century as you are, you should know that the PROPER thing to do with this hair is to make it into woven and braided jewelry, encase small snips of it in lockets, and otherwise render it suitable to be given to family and friends so they may always feel you near. Honestly, they let you leave home without doing this? The old world is really going to the dogs. (LOL)

This is actually why I`ve been waiting before I lop off all my hair--I`m just the tiniest smidge shy of the 10-inch mark from where I want to get it cut to the bottom. But it`s hot, and I`ve gotten bored with having it long, and I`ve been shedding everywhere lately... maybe it`s time to do some quick hair surgery a la Eileen, lol.

You know, all this talk of cutting hair and Locks of Love made me remember an incident in an airport years ago. I was in the Dallas airport and my hair was waist length (a couple of inches longer than it is right now) and a woman came up to me and said, "Oh, you have such beautiful hair." I thanked her, and she went on to say,"Don`t you want to get it cut?" I said no and she continued with, "Well, if you weren`t so selfish you would cut it and donate it to Locks of Love." Needless to say, I was flabbergasted and that ain`t easy to do. Neither did I feel she was representative of the organization`s attitude or spirit. I remember telling her I didn`t think it was any of her business what I did with my hair. I also commented that if she weren`t so selfish, she would grow her hair long and cut it off and donate her own hair. She`s lucky I was so nice about it, given that the little demon with horns was dying to level her with a really nasty comment. lol Benne
