I`m going to use an old pattern and it says when changing colors in ribbing, always knit first row of a different color. Does this still hold true? Carrie

Hi Carrie, If you knit across the first row of the new color it makes a neater change where the purl sts are (you won`t have the loop showing in both colors). There are knitters who don`t do this. I like the neatness of the look if I will be ribbing several rows in the second color. Knit a small swatch of ribbing with knitting the first row of the new color, and one with k and p in the first row of the new color and notice the difference it makes. Happy knitting! Jamie

gosh, thanks, jamie, I can always count on knitters on this chat center to answer my questions. In face, don`t know what I would do without it and the info I get. Carrie

BTW the row of knit sts doesn`t affect the elasticity of the ribbing. I thought it would but tried it with good result. Jamie

Thanks, Les I`ve been latchhooking and running back and forth to the computer, so I have been busy today. Time to eat.

I`m making ribbing and it has 3 colors and some are only 2 rows, can I change colors without ending off and cutting the yarn as I seem to be ending up with lots of ends on one side to weave in. Carrie

You can carry the yarns up the side. Just make sure you do a twist of the first colour with the second (to prevent a hole), and don`t pull too tight on the first stitch of a new colour (or it will distort the stitches where you start the new colour).

Hi Carrie
If you find that you get a lot of `blips` when you change colour, knit one row plain (not rib)in between, then, no problem. It works fine to carry colours up the side, just twist every couple of rows and don`t pull tight.
