You all probably have seen this already. But on the off chance someone might have missed it... I thought maybe someone else might like to play with it.
It`s free and you can create cable patterns from 2 to 6 stitches. It`s just the demo, so you don`t have the ability to save a pattern, but it could be fun just for idea sake. Here`s the link:o) http://members.iinet.net.au/~coolhoun/downloads.html Heather

That`s hilarious Heather - I stumbled across this about a week ago, and thought it would be just the thing to make my life easier with my DH`s next aran. BUT, although I tried on two separate accoasions, I just couldn`t get the downloaded demo to work. So I`d be loathe to pay the $25.00 for the real programme in case that didn`t work either. Feck, it would have been so perfect for me as well!

Oh - that`s good to know! Probably a mistake on their part then. I would overlook it if it was our old computer, riddled with idosyncracies and viruses (virii), and with no memory to speak of - but this comp is only a few months old, we scan everything religiously for viruses, keep every programme updated, and have such a humungous memory that we`re still only using less than 3% of it! So I was SO mad when the feckin thing wouldn`t download - I really thought it would be the answer to my prayers! The next aran I`m doing isn`t a completely of the top of my head design, but I have to copy it from a not-all-that-clear picture of the finished article (from clanarans.com), changing the neck, making it drop sleeve instad of raglan, and sizing it for bulky weight cotton. You may have noticed I`m talking about it as a way of putting off doing it... This programme could have saved some time - has anyone actually bought the real thing???

I`m sorry there were problems when downloading. I did this about a month ago, so I don`t remember how it went. I know I couldn`t of had too many troubles because I did it with DH help. Actually without his knowledge. He`s our computer cop.lol. I`ll ask hubby if there is some way I could send you the downlaod from my computer. Sounds good, but I don`t know if it`s possible. Heather

Thanks Heather! I just managed to get it working though - I don`t know why it wouldn`t load before. If only I could save and print it... this is something I might shell out for at some point - I do quite a bit of aran designing. This takes a lot of the tedium out of it. Great programme!

Eileen,
I think I found a way you could print off the cable work that you create on the Aran Paint. It would, of course, not be the written directions so I don`t know if it would be any help.
But here goes; When you have created a pattern on Aran Paints go up to the tool bar. Click on: 1. Edit 2. Select Mode 3. Copy Mode Open a blank word document and click on paste. It will give you a screen copy of your creation. You could then play with the copy as far as crop off the unwanted part and enlarging the pattern area.
As I said I`m not sure how much help it would be to have just a picture, but maybe it could be used as a graph. Heather

I tried that Heather - it came out as gobbledegook, perhaps because I have Word Perfect and not Word. I also tried pasting it into different paint programmes, but no luck there either. I hate it when I can`t steal stuff for free! LOL

Well I tried! I guess I don`t make a very good partner in crime.lol
I wonder??? What if you took the gobbledegook and emailed the document to someone that had word? I wonder if it would translate the gobbledegook? What do you think? If you wanted I could give you my email and we could try it. Heather

I had problems when I tried to download too. So then I "saved" to my computer instead of "opening". I "saved" to My Documents. Then went to My Documents and Unzipped the file. This then installed Aran Paint into Programs. If anyone else is having problems with this let me know and I can try to burn you a CD and snail mail it to you. I played a little while on it and it`s fun. Especially for me since I`m new at this and get a chance to see what my ideas will look like.
