Theresa and Jean, do either of you have a favorite drop spindle? I have been wanting to buy one. There are so many to choose from. I am going to try and attend NWRSA(North West Regional Spinners Association)Conference in June 3, and get it then. Hopefully I have my pennies saved by then.
The only spindle I have is my cd spindle that, as I`ve said, isn`t that good.

Hey Heather,
I have a Mongold, a Kokovoko and a couple of others and I have to tell you that my fave is my CD spindle. It spins forever and evenly. Maybe I just got lucky but I really like it. Are you using 2 CDs or just one on yours? Mine has two. Maybe it`s just the Texas logo on my CD that makes it spin so well! lol! :-)

Peace,
Jean

I used two on mine. But maybe becuase I didn`t ahve any grommets and used glue from a hot glue gun to connect the cds and the shaft all together. Do you just use a wood dowling for the shaft? How long? And I bet your right, it probably is the Texas logo! I`m so jealous.Lol

I`ll tell you what Heather... I just oredered some grommets. I`m praying they are the right type. If they are, I`ll send you one along with a dowel. Might be a while as I have to wait on the grommets to get here. I`ll let you know when they do though.

My oldest son is stationed up at Ft. Lewis. He loves the area. He leaves for Iraq in the Fall and is getting out when he gets back. He wants to go back to Ft. Wayne (where his dad was from and his grandparents live) to go to college. That`s just fine with me! It`s one thing for my husband to go downrange... quite another for my son. I`m dreading it. Dan will probably be on the next rotation next Spring also. At least he and Jeremy will be there for a bit together.

Anway... I digress... I`ll let you know when the grommets arrive.

Peace,
Jean

My Husband used to be at Ft Lewis ages ago. That`s how we ended up in Washington. Out of all the places he had stayed when he was in the army ,he liked WA the best. I`m sorry to hear that your boy is going to Iraq. I`m sure he`ll be fine, but I can only imagine how you might worry. What does he want to major in, in college?

I would appreciate the grommets and dowling. What a sweetie!

My favorite spindle is from The Wool Room in Brewster New York - made by a guy named Dave smith, I think - I will look at it. I also spin a lot on bead spindles, spindles I made from wooden wheels from the craft store and dowels, etc....

Hey Heather,
He doesn`t really know what he wants to major in yet. He`s got a little over a year left.

We wanted to go to Ft. Lewis since that`s where he`d spend most of his time but since he`s getting out we`re trying to go to Ft. Drum, NY near my family (well, not really near- it`s 6 hours to where they live in NH).

Peace,
Jean

My sister lived in Olympia until 5 yrs ago and is now in Everett having remarried. I remember a trip from her place years ago on the Greyhound. I was heading to Vancouver BC to visit and then fly home to Alberta. We drove through Ft. Lewis to make a stop. I knew that name rang a bell!! I love that coast of WA.

I actually prefer that side of WA too. Shhh, don`t tell DH! The people are so much friendlier. We did have a house in Bremerton, which is across the Tacoma Narrows bridge, Galloping Gerdy. I used to love to go to Poulsbo and Port Townsend. Les, your sister might have heard of these two towns. Does you sister like Everett better than Olympia?

And Jean how much longer are you in Germany?

Hey Heather,
We just got back here last August 1st (it`s our third tour here - the last one was five years from 95-00).

We are slotted to stay till June 06, but with everything going on... who knows. All depends on when Dan gets deployed and if they close down the post here in 06. If they do we`ll be one of the last to leave. Dan is Criminal Investigations so he`ll have to make sure people aren`t stealing things and everything is on the up and up.

We`re trying to go to Ft. Drum, NY next to be somewhat close to my family in NH. Although... Dan started making noises last night about trying to get Vicenza, Italy next (about an hour from Venice). I love visiting Italy... I don`t necessarily want to live there.

Peace,
Jean

2006, My word! Then NY or Italy! Goodness! With so many tours in Germany, do you at least like it? Has it always been the same place?

I think my sister preferred Oly to Everett. She lived in Oly for about 18 years at least and her home was on Bud Bay on Puget Sound. How I loved to visit there. I think it was probably hard for her to leave friends etc. She has a great house in Everett but it`s not on the water. I`ve heard good things of Bremerton (mom and dad lived in Seattle for a year) and Port Townsend rings a bell but not Poulsbo. When my sister remarried, I flew to Vancouver BC, rented a car and drove to Oly. On my return with my 3 kids and my niece, I had a craving for one more feed of seafood. Saw Gig Harbour and thought it sounded like seafood(!) and headed there - is that Galloping Gerdy? It was a little further by road than by map (of course I had to double back too) and nearly missed my flight to Calgary!! Yikes! I had to stay cool calm and collected to keep the troops from finding out my plight.

Yep, It sounds like you went over Galloping Gerdy. Gig Harbor, really doesn`t have any seafood places that I know of. So it was probably good you had to turn around rather than be disappointed. I have to very dear friends tht still live in Bremerton. I hope to visit there this summer.

We did find a place to eat because we were starving - it was by the water but I had visions of something a little different. Food was okay, but unmemorable!! (I remember most occasions by what food was served!! - I`m just that way - DH just doesn`t understand ;-}) But, doesn`t "Gig Harbour" just sound like it should have great little outdoor restaurants on the water?
