Saw some soy-silk knit into a baby blanket at Shuttleworks (they have a web site) which is a weaving spinning knitting place. Didn`t have time to quiz the owner but I saw it in roving and then this delicious little baby blanket. It is naturally (I think)a creamy yellow just like the background of this page. Soy -silk is a byproduct of the tofu industry. Les

Les, I haven`t yet tried any soy silk, but would love too. The Bellwether, a fiber website, I believe gives a description of what it`s like to spin. And the newest Spin-Off magazine has an article in it regarding Southwest Fiber Company, the people who coined the phrase soy silk. I would also like to try the other "new fibers", such as Ingeo, and bamboo silk. So many fibers...;)I know of a couple of sites that sell soy silk for spinning, if your interested. Since I`m still new to this chat thing someone will have to let me know if it`s okay to list them. I don`t wish to offend anyone right off, I`ll wait awhile to do that,LOL.

Everytime I think of spinning the soy silk I have, an image of spaghetti squash stops me...Do you think, if we dyed it with Kool-Aid, that we would end up with a sweater that could, in a pinch, make a delicious snack?

Here are some Websites that have Soy silk for spinning.
http://stores.spinnersnotebook.com/StoreFront.bok Southwest Trading Co. Click on Rovings and Fibers then soy silk is on page 2 I believe they also sell soy silk yarn. Perfect for dyeing.
http://store.carlsonwoollies.com/index.html The Bellwether
http://www.mypollywogs.com/ Diane is the owner and very nice.

http://www.earthguild.com/products/spinning/spsoycor.htm
I`ve only ordered from Pollywogs, and The Bellwether some silk cocoons. So I don`t know how the other websites are for ordering and shipping.
I like Theresa`s idea about the KoolAid and soy silk idea, just as long as the knitted item isn`t a pair of socks.

I think Knitter`s Review did an in-depth review on it last year - http://www.knittersreview.com/article_yarn.asp?article=/review/product/031009_a.asp
I`d love to try it too - since I`ve been a vegetarian over 20 years and get my main source of protein from soy, it just feels right. But, I`m unwilling to spend a lot of money on an unknown quantity - this site has spoiled me that way, LOL.

Thanks gang. I think I`ll take a little jaunt to Shuttleworks (1/2 an hour away) and if it needs spinning I know that there is a guild in the area and will find someone to do that for me. It was so soft and touchable! As for mail-order, I like to stick with Canadian places as we get soaked with tax and duty whenever we order from the states. We have had to pay over 40.00 for gifts sent by my sister in Everett WA. when she forgot to put "5 gifts" on the declaration!! (she always sends the best things so of course we`d accept it!!!) Les

No fries thanks! Just thinking of what type of sauce would go best with it. A Thai or perhaps Vietnamese dipping sauce. What do you think? Les
