Did all of you catch the channel 7 news last night?! Well some of my friends did... (non`knitter`s) who called me to let me now how HIP I am. A trendy little knitting cafe in NYC was the feature and the rage it being "not just for grandma`s" was the topic. It seems that knitting has become a new fad with a younger crowd and with all the absolutely beautiful yarns available... more knitters are joining the knit world. Coffee and wine knitting cliches are popping up all over the place :) I tell ya ! I knew if I waited long enought I`d come back in style!!

My daughter (34, very hip, and unlike her mother, tall and lanky...) lives in NYC. She has NEVER given any thought over the years to learning to knit, I mean that`s something that old people like her mother do...
Two weeks ago she called, and is planning a visit, `cause she just can`t get the hang of knitting and thinks maybe I can help. She told me all her friends are knitting. If we just live long enough, everything comes back in style!

Also nice is that my 11-year old son who wore his first knitting project to school (a simple rolled brim hat) received positive feedback about it from his teacher & schoolmates. Maybe if knitting were not so "in" now he would have been teased instead admired! Now he wants to knit a hat for his teacher for an end-of-school year present--should be done by June!

Isn`t it great that more people are knitting! That enables the yarn companies to bring all of us more and more new yarn for our stashes. ;} Marion, your daughter could not have a better teacher. You could be teaching classes with the way you knit and design. I wish sometimes my mother had been able to teach me knitting. She did teach me to sew and do fine embroidery. I still have all of those gorgeous Barbie and baby doll clothes she sewed using satins, velvets and furs and all kinds of luxury fabrics. She saved scraps and bought tiny remnants of special materials just for my doll clothes. We were a blue collar/farm family so money was tight and she made every little scrap count. I had the absolute best doll clothes ever and was the envy of all the other little girls. She never had a pattern but she sure had style. I miss my mom a lot and wish I could knit for her. It`s great that you two will be able to share this. And just think, she realized just how hip you are!

Thanks for your kind words Benne, but I think my daughter would rather choke than think me hip!

Marion-

You know the old saw about how 17 year olds think their parents are idiots; 20 year olds "maybe they aren`t so stupid"; 30 "gee my folks know how to do everything?" Your total coolness may escape her, but she is seeking your advice....she doesn`t NEED a knitting teacher, her mother can show her EVERYTHING! You are sought after for your skills and talents, and she`s too old to puke on you! Fantastic!

(And quick, toss some of that stash in her suitcase so you can make room for more!)

Have a terrific time with her!
