I`m wondering if any of you wonderful knitters have come across this pattern. It was featured years (oh, maybe ten?) ago in a UK Sunday Times colour supplement. The finished lace looked almost like the flowery crochet in ecasey`s lovely `crocheted top from Summer 2003 FCEK` seen here on the left. I seem to recall that the author of the pattern was a real live knitter-bishop, presumably the well-known Bishop Rutt who`s written knitting history books, but a google-search hasn`t netted me any likely patterns. Any pointers would be most welcome. :)
This is a fabulous site with the most addictive yarns - who knew that yarns could be trusted to be as yummy as they appear on screen! Great job!

I`m sorry I`ve never seen the pattern you are referring to but I checked through my knitting stitch pattern books and couldn`t find anything resembling the flower crochet stitch. You are looking for knit as opposed to crochet, right? Because the crochet stitch appears in a couple of books that I have.
One thing you might try is to post a message on the Usenet group: rec.crafts.textiles.yarn. They have several members that post regularly that live in the UK so perhaps one of them will be able to help you.
Good luck and let us know if you find what you are looking for. I would be interested in the pattern also.

Thank you for the suggestion Ellen! I will certainly try the Usenet group.
Yes, it is a knit rather than crochet - I seem to recall a series of yarn-overs and knit-into-stitch-belows and a lot of painful stitch counting but a beautiful and lacy end result.
I`d love to find the pattern again, and I`ll keep you posted on my search :)

There is an article about Bishop Rutt in Knitter`s magazine #9. It is the one about Shawls and I`ve seen it go for $85-100 on ebay. The article talks about knitting history and Bishop Rutt`s book, The History of Handknitting, but doesn`t give any patterns. Maybe knittinguniverse.com can help you find any of his patterns they have published or know have been published. Good luck on your search! Benne

Thank you for the ideas. $100 - ouch! i`m rather glad that the pattern isn`t actually listed in that magazine... i might`ve had to agonise over it. But ho-hum, i guess an obsession is an obsession... It`ll teach me to loan out a good pattern to someone who isn`t going to look after it...
