Maybe you don`t want it know, but what is your first name? If you`d rather keep it private that`s ok. Just started another sweater for myself and thought about you and your husband. Hope you are both doing well. It`s 90+ here and here I am with wool in hand looking forward to autumn and winter. The cold makes my joints ache and back worse, but mentally I am so energized. Along with my sweater I am back to making gifts. I have taken a few months off so that I could do some things for myself. Three new sweaters for me so far. I found THE BEST sweater ever in a Rowan book I don`t own. I wrote to Rowan in Canada and they photocopied the pattern and sent it free of charge. As my almost perfect woman Martha says, "It`s a good thing." It sure saves on purchasing a 22.00 magazine for one pattern you like. Take care. Be well. Gregg

So what sweater in which book? I can always use a good idea for a guy`s sweater?
I`m making my husband "the Great Divide" in the latest Knit `n Style. I`m using a wool/silk Austermann blend for the main yarn, and Kureyeon for the contrast blocks. I`m not nuts about the color run-I`ve got a sprucey green tweed as a main color, and 1 ball of autumn red/gold/green/brown, and one ball of brown/taupe/grey for the other, and they kind of checkerboard across the front of the sweater, but it looks ok, and he honestly won`t care because I`m planning a shawl collar, and it`s green, so all is well.

Hi bets. Good to hear from you. Sounds like an interesting combination you have going there. I`m sure it will turn out just fine and your hubby will love it. As for me, I`m torn between a few sweaters. I have my Rowan mags in front of me in bed plus a few other larger Rowan books. It`s between a Kaffe Fassett or Kim Hargreaves design. Since I no longer have that awful morphine pump sticking out of me I can go back to wearing slimmer sweaters. Kim designs nice ones. Kaffe, though he has a great eye for color schemes his sweaters seem to be for narrow shoulder guy with no chest. He has a lot that only go up to a 40 chest. I`m 43/44 with a 31 waist and long arms. I have to figure if I am really in the mood now to map out all of the changes I`d need to make. We`ll see. I`ll let you knpw when I decide. I hope you are doing well. You were part of the group I mentioned in the above post. You must have missed it. Anyway, have a good weekend if I don`t talk to you before it`s over.

Oh, I did butt in, didn`t I? I feel like a dork! Wait, no I am a dork!
Kaffe does design some nice sweaters, it`s the concept of the bobbins that gets me. If you READ his work, he talks about winding up that magic ball, but when you flip to the chart, it`s a whole `nother story! (They have to sell that yarn, I guess) I have to do the same adjustments for my husband, you seem to be about the same size. I look for plain parts in the sleeve, and just do an extra 2.5" and that takes care of it. This current project, I cast on for the small, and just inc to the medium on my way up, but mine is simple, and doesn`t require a chart every row.
Glad you are feeling better- B

No you did not butt in and you definitely are no dork. Delightfully crazy but not a dork. LOL Anytime I am making a sweater with lots of color changes, I just use lengths of yarn. I don`t use bobbins of any kind. No problem with a mess of heavy bobbins twisting together and such. If the lengths of yarn get caught with one another a quick draw through with the fingers is all you need do. It`s a great way to do knit with lots of colors and enjoy what you`re doing. Try it. Thanks for the well wishes. I am trying to deal. I was just told at the pharmacy that one of my meds will no longer be covered by my insurance. Can you believe it? They took dental away and eye service and now this. It will cost me 88.00 for the pills. No way. I won`t worry until after I talk to my doctor. You have a great weekend and stay in touch.

Hi Greg- Sorry about the delay - I was enjoying a computer free weekend. During the week days I am on my phone and on the computer all day. Sometimes it is nice to just ignore it. I hardly even checked my personal e-mail. I was too busy sitting on the beach enjoying the wonderful mountain sunshine. We have the distinct pleasure of perfect summer weather - it rarely gets above 80 degrees, no humidity and usually a lovely 5-10 mile an hour breeze off the lake - just enough to make the leaves on the Aspens tinkle like wind chimes. I have spent numerous summers in hot humid places tho so I can understand how hot you are! I am a Rowan fan too. I am able to get quite a few of the books through my library because like you I hate the thought of spending $22 for one or two patterns. Sometimes I will also go in on a mag/pattern book with my girlfriends. We split it evenly and then one person makes copies of the stuff each one likes. I think it is pretty cool they sent you the pattern! Well I had better get back to work. Hope you had a good 4th!
