Hi, I ordered a book from elann, the Spring/Summer 2002 edition of Mondo Valeria. I am trying to figure out the cardigan, model #6, but am having trouble. They are calling for a "ribbing stitch", which is described as "knit 1 st *1 thread, knit 2 joint sts*, repeat from * to * and end with one knit" Can anyone explain this stitch to me? Sometimes the translations from the international patterns are not as clear and don`t seem to be translated by a native english speaker. (I am german myself and laugh at the patterns that are translated from German into English, as they often make no sense.) Thank you so much. Carola

Hi-
I`m NOT German, but I`ve spent a lot of time trying to figure out German pattern books. I finally hit on the idea of buying a "learn to knit" book in German, and THAT made it much easier.
What that would mean literally to me is K1, *YO, K2 tog*. Which makes no sense if it`s a ribbing stitch, because that would make it quite lacy. Does match the photo? I`m going to look at the Capri page now.... B

I`m going to feel really dumb, but...could that simply be K1 *yo, k2tog*...etc? Going out on a limb to embarrass myself, lol...happy knitting. Fran

If you need some german translations I`d be happy to help.
It is a really lacy look, so your suggestion should work. I`ll try and advise. Thanks, Carola

Thanks Carola, if I ever make one thing in each book I bought while I was stationed there, I might use up my yarn! Between the schematics, which are pretty clear, and my book, which REALLY helped, I`m ok for now, but I`ll remember to keep you in mind! Let us know how the sweater comes out!

Hi Fran and Bets, I have tried your suggestion regarding YO, K2tog, and that works just right. Thank you.
Bets, it seems I enjoy ordering books and then finding the yarn to work the patterns, as much as I enjoy knitting the actual item. I feel with knitting I am combining a few favorite actitivies: surfing the web, shopping, planning and organizing, and finally knitting. What other activity out there has all that going for it and IS NOT FATTENING?????. lol

hi, i`m sorry that i didn`t see your questions sooner. i have already had many corraspondences with dianne from elann about this book. it is not in german, it is in spanish. you`re quite right about the K1,yo(yarn over)knit2tog for cardigan 6. i`ve been having a lot better luck working these patterns directly from the spanish instructions. i have translated a few more and could forward my original emails if you have other problems. good luck, the patterns are so cute!
