I purchased two 1.1 lb cones of this mercerized cotton and can`t figure out what to do with it. How do you get it off the cones, as it is hard to work with on these heavy cones? Also, have any of you used this product and what did you make with it? Carola

I made an open-work short sleeved sweater in the round for my SIL with it. Turned out beautifully. It was actually a free pattern I found on the internet...I think maybe at knitting.about.com. I wouldn`t take it off the cone! I love not having to join new balls especially if you are working in the round. If you feel you must have smaller balls I would wind it with a ball winder - maybe by sticking the cone on an un-opened swift.

Hi! The yarn can just be taken (as you knit it) from the cone. Just set the cone on the floor and pull off the top. If you are making a shawl, or sweater, you can knit for a LONG time without a break in the thread. Occasionally there are knots in the yarn but rarely. I have knit with the pearl cotton; made some very small mittens for Xmas ornaments. I haven`t knit a sweater or shawl but it would be good for some open lacy projects. Be sure to make a swatch. I use pearl cotton for weaving projects - belts and table linen.
