Hi Evelyn,
To add an avatar to your profile, click on "My Profile" in the dark brown toolbar above, and then upload a picture that is no more than 15000 bytes and 100x100 pixels. You can also personalize your user name and your signature, as well as add interests and a homepage if you have one, from this screen.
