Has anyone out there made this pattern from the Elann Free Patterns section. I really want to make it but the directions seem so vague. I am used to the lace knitting but this one is scary

I haven`t made it yet, Trish, but what part is scaring you? Customer service here is VERY good about getting you an explanation of anything confusing in their free patterns. Some of them are written so you can use any weight yarn, and more or less fit any weight body...Is that the vagueness you refer to? I`ll go take a look, and if I get a brilliant brain flash I`ll be back with details...

I have seen this knit up. I am not sure which yarn this woman chose, but the top was just lovely. She changed the sleeves, somewhat, but she didn`t mention anything about the pattern being difficult or vague. We were too busy admiring the top!

From Another Trish, (I must be the evil twin!)

This pattern is based on the knit-to-fit concept. Rather than give exact directions (that mostly are only exact for the designer) this pattern gives a start, and instructions for making the top fit. That way, if ones gauage is slightly different that the gauage used in the pattern, the top will still work. Also, it makes it easy to switch yarns.

I haven`t made this shell, but I`ve made a kids top and a lace poncho using Michelle`s instructions. It feels a little funny the first time one knits a pattern using this principle, but for me, it made a lot of sense once I took the deep breath and got started.

Dive in and ask questions if you get stuck.

Thanks for the encouragement. It is the knit-to-fit concept that scares me. As often as I have worked with lace patterns, they always had a chart or line info(row 1xxxxx, row 2xxxx act). I`ll just have to get brave and go for it.

Thanks for the response, Trish. Maybe I`ll feel better once I get it started. It will be well worth the challenge.

Hi,

It is the vaguesness that I`m concerned about. I`m used to row by row instructions or at least a chart for the lace patterns I have worked with in the past. I did, in fact email the customer service and they just said that what was on their site was all there was for info. I`ll give it a go anyway, I think. I love the top enough to take the challenge.
Thanks for your input.
