Has anyone seen this book? I`m looking for fast poncho patterns to make to sell at market. Does it fit the bill?

I haven`t seen that one yet, but I am VERY interested in the one by XRX... all their books so far have been so, so, so good! I think it`s called Ponchos and Wraps, it`s one of those collections of the best patterns from Knitter`s magazine or something like that.

I have te XRX book. It is good, but I think for basics and speed, nothing beats the McChick patterns :)

I think if you want a really fast, market priced one, I`d do one in the round with washable cotton on really big needles so it looks lacy without any trouble. Like the one Benne did. Keeping it rather short would also help keep the price down as there is less material and less time.

Take a look at Knit`n Style for April 2005 (#136), there`s a "Lacy Cable Poncho" from Tahki*Stacy Charles on page 27. The design is knitted in 100% cotton #5 weight. I knit this during the first few days in Scotland from some alpaca from a friend`s animals - a sample for this year`s retreats. Very fast. Instead of the drawstring around the neck, I did a cabled edge, which is more flattering for the over 25 group than the peasant neck.

Take a good look at the construction, and then work out a simple pattern with strong definition to make the same width. It`s unlikely that Tahki*Stacy Charles would give you permission to use their pattern for items for sale in time for this season, so use the basic shape - two rectangles 26 inches by 13 inches, add fringe and neck trim - design and go for it. I`ll post separately about a case of `using` other people`s patterns.

I have the XRX book and I like it. I`d probably make everything in there different from the pattern though. I think MacChick and Bets and Chris are rubbing off on me, I cannot knit a pattern without doing something to it, it seems. :-} All ponchos are basically one of several shapes - round, rectangles, triangular, asymmetical. And the fun of them is, you can change stitch patterns at will, look at MacChick`s successes. I look at patterns and think of color and stitch variations. I love changing yarns at will too. One of these days I`m going to do the magic ball like Kaffe Fasset does. I like surprises! lol I ordered the Viva Ponchos today, I`ll let you know what I think.
