Message from ScullyKnits

Good Evening. I`ve sent in pictures for a small bag I recently knitted and felted. It needs a button, still looking for one I like.

Hopefully, elann has the weekend off and the pictures won`t be posted till Monday. I`m traveling tomarrow for the week so I`ll share the pattern now.

The bag used 2 skeins of Uros, I used the cedar sage and dusty teal. The color pattern is from Barbara Walkers 3rd book, Charted Knitting Patterns. It had a 15 stich repeat so it fit perfectly. Any mosaic pattern can be used, modifying (bag or pattern) as necessary.

Using #8 16-in circular needles and dark color, cast on 30 stitches. Knit in garter stitch till there are 15 ridges.
Pick-up 15 stitches on the side, 30 stitches , then 15 again. Join, mark begining, and knit in rounds for an inch or so (didn`t keep good notes here).
Start color pattern using lighter color for contrast, 1 repeat on the short sides and 2 repeats on the long. When pattern rows are complete, knit 2 rows light color and repeat pattern, reversing colors. (this part will make more sense when you see the bag)
End with an inch or so of the light color.

Open top, bind off all around,

Flap top: at marker knit 30, then bind off remaining stitches. Knit back and forth, decreasing 1 stitch at each side until 2 stitches remain, knit together.

The cord is a 3 stitch I cord, both yarns together on number 10 DP needles. I made the cord till I ran out of yarn.

Felt and block till dry.

The Uros was a bit more fuzzy than I wanted, so I used a clothes shaver after felting to give it a bit of a haircut. I know that use of a shaver can be hard on knits, but I liked the cleaner look. I shaved very little.

It was fast knitting and using only 2 skeins, very affordable.
