The decrease are into the patterned part rather than at the edge. The two pattern stitches after the edge stitch are probably fairly firm (not a bunch of YO and holes) or else they are something like K K YO, in which case, you`ll have a neat slanted line of eyelets. Then you do the reverse at the other end of the row.
