Hi Lesley,

I`m not Lisa, but I just finished the Gils Cardigan from Best of Lopi in the Loden and grey. I bought a ton of Naturgarn from Elann last year and that`s the only project I`ve finished so far. I bought four projects worth (all from Best of Lopi) and then some "extra" for whatever I could think of. lol. As soon as I block the cardigan I`ll post the pic. It was supposed to be for hubby, but it looks like it`s mine. I think subconsciously I made it too small for him because I just *knew* it wasn`t his style and he wouldn`t wear it. lol. I told him it might fit him after I block it... Not. I`m just avoiding the inevitable. lol.

Peace,
Jean
Ansbach, Germany

Uh-oh...

With all the talk of Quecha, I`ve been quietly updating my Gjestal Naturgarn stash (well, I grabbed - you know - a *few* balls of Quecha), as guiltily as only a knitter in a place with precious few snowy days, can. But boy, will our family look Nordic and picturesque on those days!

Yes, you`re absolutely right that the muted tones really lend themselves to vintage styles - that soft, muted look is one of the things I love most about alpaca blends.

I can`t believe how on-the-ball you are, Ann! Not only are you alert to every post that comes up here that might pertain to you, but you remember our past posts too!

I DID say I loved the new website colours - and in fact had painted my living room a combination of the darkest green here, and the lighter shade where the photos are - just the day before these colours changed! So I ordered the khaki! I think it`ll be perfect for one of the White Lies jackets - the muted quality of it will add to the vintage look I think. And as I tend to wear long velvet hippie skirts in dark green, purple, brown, burgundy, or combinations of these, I think the colous will go really well!

Eileen.

On second thoughts, Eileen, maybe you would like it! I just remembered that you did say that you like the new colors on the website. The kahki is close to a lighter version of the darkest color on the site now - the color behind "captivating yarns . . "

Eileen, I don`t think the kahki would be right for you. It`s green, but it`s a browny green, and I`ve gathered from your other posts that you like clear greens. Don`t worry, we`ll be ordering more Quechua (as well as the other Peruvian Collection yarns) within the next few months, and I`ll be keeping our color discussions in mind.

The Khaki looks green to me, but it`s tough to tell from a single strand.

A wise woman in a fabric store once told me that one strand of thread will always look lighter than many strands woven into a piece of cloth, and it`s even more true with yarn... a whole skein will always look darker than one strand on the white background of the newsletter, and so will the knitted fabric. So you might be right about it looking more brown... I think you should ask Ann about it... she sees it in bigger quantities than we do.

The Khaki MIGHT be a color where it is safe to buy just one skein to check the color, and still expect there will be more left... but if the color turns out "wrong," will your back-up choice still be available?

Last year I ordered some yarn that turned out sooo different from what I wanted and expected (it was nice stuff... just all wrong for the project), that I asked if I could send it back... and the Elann folks were unbelievably helpful to me through it all. So you could ask about that, too.

These decisions ARE torturous... because we all know the yarn won`t be there for long. Look what happened to the Uros... I thought it was safe to wait and order some more of the antique blue when I placed my Quecha order, but ALL the Uros is gone! And look what keeps happening to the Highland Wool... ya just want something like that to be a "staple" that you can ALWAYS get...the perfect worsted weight wool, how much more of a "staple" could there be? And yet it goes so fast that these decisions are toturous for a very real reason. Good Luck to you, really.

...I have one last Quechua question - and you can be honest ladies, cos I`m not after any aubergine, vincuna or parchment, whatever the replies! The khaki colour - does it look more green, or more brown/grey to you?? I want greenish shade for my White Lies jacket, but I don`t want a mud colour. And the pomegranate - does it look like a horrible bright red knitted up - for anyone that has a sample. Will it clash desparately with my red hair??

It`s funny how quickly these decisions become torturous! LOL

Eileen.
