Thanks to you both for your answers...I am subscribing to that today, as I think you are both right in that it will save time and money (yeah!) in the long run...and you can never have too many vouchers or $50 refunds, right? Appreciate you taking the time to reply.
Fran

I too am on my second year of the sample skeins subscription. I think the price went up because it used to be that you got would get several for each month, all going on sale at the same time. None at all in July or December (or was it January). Now you get one for every week all year! And, now one has time to knit up the samples before they go on sale because it`s only one a week. Having the samples to knit up has saved me from having to return novelty yarns that didn`t knit up the way I thought they would. I, too, have used them to see whether I can get gauge on a project I was hoping to use them for (this ended up costing me money <grin>). I save them and use the smooth ones to sew seams when a project yarn is too weird - I have smooth yarns in just about every shade now! Plus, you get the money back for the subscription in yarn vouchers (easily used by me, I`m also in the "Elann multiple $50 free yarn club&quot. It really depends on how much yarn you buy from Elann, but for me the sample subscription a no-brainer. Hope this helps!

Fran,
I just started my second year of the sample skein subscription and I think it is worthwhile even though it has gone up in price since last year. Having the actual skein to try out has saved me many times from purchases that I would have regretted later; so in the long run I think it has actually saved me money! Also, if the sample is "ample" :-), I can actually do a gauge swatch for the pattern I`m considering and see if it would work out. The only problem is I spend too much of my precious knitting time knitting samples and dreaming about possibilities; takes time away from the current WIP, which might have reached a troublesome point!

Dear All,
I would like to hear from some folks who have selected this option. I already get the newsletter, but am curious as to this possibility...occasionally the yarns don`t "feel" like they look, but the opportunity to try them out before they hit the net is a big draw, too...Any comments?
Fran
