The Afghan Tulip Socks pattern was inspired by an authentic Afghan Vest decorated with tulips. The socks feature a picot edge at the cuff and are knit from the cuff down, making sizing easier. Designed for women, the socks will fit a calf measuring 10" around (at 6" from the bottom of the heel) and 8.25" around the ball of the foot. Cuffs are knit on a larger needle size (US 3 suggested) than the foot (US 2 suggested). If a roomier sock is needed, continue to use US 3 needles for the foot. If the sizing is correct, change to US 2 needles for the foot, or try a smaller size needle for a smaller foot.
A pair of socks uses 4 colors of fingering weight (27-29 st/4") or baby weight (30-32 st/4") yarn as follows: 350 yards of main color (indigo), and 35 yards each of 3 contrasting colors (yellow, light coral, and dark coral).
When you purchase this pattern from Elann, 100% of its purchase price will go directly to afghans for Afghans, a humanitarian and educational people-to-people project that sends hand-knit and crocheted blankets and garments to the beleaguered people of Afghanistan, and which supports literacy classes for widows and other women in Kabul.
