Has anyone used this yarn? I`ve ordered some to make a sweater and for my granddaughter and I am wondering what it is like to work with. I also ordered the pattern book mentioned, Pingouin 62, and the pattern is the featured pattern for a turtleneck sweater.

WOW!!!! I received the yarn and pattern today and of course the other 4 or is it 6 WIP are put aside. The yarn is great, sooo soft although it did not slide across my fingers very smoothly at first it felt very comfortable after a few rows of my swatch!

Yes it is for my granddaughter, she is only 4 but it is never to early to learn about nice yarns, right? I needed a reason to buy this yarn (yeah, right)and she is it!!!! That will teach my husband to forget my birthday, that and about 40 other skeins of "stuff" arriving daily.

Thanks Betsy! Where were you stationed? My husband and I were stationed in Heidelberg, Germany in 1969. My husband returned in March from a post in Kosovo where he was working for the U.N. I am still looking for that gorgeous sweater pattern for myself!

Is this feasible
|
I have found a childs sweater pattern that I like a lot, but it is made in cotton and I would like to make it in wool. The gauge for the cotton is 20 stitches and 28 rows on #6, and the gauge of the wool yarn is 19 stitches and 25 rows on #8.

It is a boatneck neckline and the sleeves are set in. Yes I`ve swatched the yarn and while it was not exact it was close enough, for me anyway. I think that it will work just fine. Thanks Betsy I am getting paranoid about not following the pattern exactly, don`t know why, I`ve never been that way about anything!!! Thanks again

Your friend was maarried at the castle in Heidelberg? WOW. We were married in Basel Switzerland. You are so right on about the media. You only hear about Bosnia and Kosovo in passing when someone wants to show what a good job the UN can do!! Having been involved with the UN my husband feels it is just another political machine, with all of the back stabbing. We were in the Czech Republic a few years ago and found it to be so gray and depressing! I do not like Austria!!Give me southern France and Northern Italy. Kosovo is a beautiful place, if you can see through the war damage, the people love Americans, especially Bill Clinton and Ms. Albright. We hope to return to Kosovo in the near future. About the yarn for that sweater, well the yarn is bought, several times over.Just ordered a pattern and I am hoping to get it done before Christmas, but I think that may be a bit too optimistic!!! ;}

Patricia is right! Yarn you must buy! (ha ha!)

DON`T ASK!!We have had a family emergency. My daughter-in-law was admitted to the hospital for a collapsed lung. My son works a 12 hour shift so I have to get my 3 grandaughters, twins age 5 and a 4 year old ready for school each morning in addition to all of the things that go with taking care of them through the day. I`ve had absolutely no time to knit. I am not complaining, beleive me, I am thankful that I am able to help out. I can not wait to begin the sweater, in fact I was going to order more yarn today to make sweaters for the twins.Thanks for asking Betsy.

Fran`s shawl-to-be and other great stuff

A bit off of the subject, but I was reading some old posts from the summer and saw that you are from the U.P. Fran. My family is from Iron Mountain, but we are now living in southern Wisconsin. I have a lot of family still living in the U.P.

A Senior Moment???
|
I am making the Pingouin Sof`Hair Long sleeved Sweater and have run into a problem. At this point I have 70 sts on my right needle and these are the instructions: Shoulder & Neck Shaping. Cast off 8 sts, k until there are 13 sts on right needle, leave these for right back. cast off next 20sts, k to end. Cont on 17 (19-21-23-25) sts now rem at end of needle for left back. Cast off 8 sts at beg of next row and 5 Sts at neck edge on foll row then cast off rem 8 sts to complete shoulder slope. Rejoin yarn to neck edge of right back sts, cast off 5, p to end. Cast off rem 6 (7-8-9-10) sts. Should I have cast off 8 sts at the end of the row in order to have 21 sts because if I k to end of row I will have 29 sts. It seems that the neck will not be centered. And I have no idea what to do with the 13 sts that were left for the right back. Hope that someone can help me. Thanks in advance. If you would prefer to email me my address is ortizpj@prodigy.net

A Senior Moment???
|
Okay Bets, here`s the deal! It was a senior moment and I feel really dumb. I always make a copy of my pattern so that I can write on it and highlight the size and stitches that I will be working on. Well when I made the copy I cut off 2 rows in the armhole shaping which would have given me the correct stitches for the neck and shoulder shaping and would therefore put the neck in the center where it belongs. Way too much going on right now to be knitting even a simply pattern. DIL is home from the hospital and doing well. Thanks Bets for your help. I have made a new copy of the pattern and will have my husband unravel and I will start again.
