Thank You

Cheryl, as much as I would like to admire your work, I don`t want to increase your workload. Looks like you are busy but having fun - you are so talented!
Marta
Oh, languages - the grammar in Portuguese - and other Latin-based languages, for that matter - is much more complicated than in English, and of course there are some sounds that are very different. My own children, who grew up hearing them at home (we always thought it is an advantage to be exposed to more than one language, even if we were not totally strict about making them speak it all the time) have trouble with pronunciation. But give Matt some time - he`ll pick it up. And it will go much faster if he is not too self-conscious and afraid of making mistakes - better laugh them off...

It would have to be baby clothes!! I knit so little for myself (trying to change that...) that scarves are the only thing that comes to mind. :(

Slow Progress on My Minimalist Sweater and a Question
|
Oh, good to know I`m not the only one...On the one hand, there is that voice in the back of my mind warning that if there are problems it`s better to know about them before sewing the pieces; but on the other hand, sewing gives some structure/support to the pieces, which may prevent said problems/stretching. Right??? Or just lazy? :)

shoulder replacement cancelled

Cheryl, that negative attitude on the doctor`s part is inexcusable! Of course all those concerns should have been discussed - not talked down - with you a long time ago, and every effort made to reach a successful decision with you. I would ask him for an explanation, and possibly to reconsider his decision, but in partnership with you!
About shoulder recovery after tendon repair, though, I have direct experience, and I`m afraid he may not have been exaggerating all of it. After my surgery a few years ago to repair a torn tendon, I was put on that ice machine and my DH had to periodically take care of changing the ice because I definitely could not do it. The sling was on 24/7 for several months, and all I was allowed to do for the first six weeks with that arm was wiggle my fingers - no kidding!!! I had to do everything, from brushing my teeth to combing my hair to getting dressed, everything, with my left hand. Being right-handed, it was very difficult - and oh, I could not drive either... I started physical therapy one week after the surgery, but it was "passive", meaning the therapist did all the moving with no effort at all on my part for several weeks, before I started to very gradually do range of motion and then later, weight-bearing exercises. I recovered full range of motion, but the whole process took six months from the surgery to the last physical therapy session - and there were no complications at all, in fact my progress was considered better than optimum for my age (mid-50s; young tendons of say, 20 or 30, would have recovered in about half the time, I was told...). I could not have done it living alone, especially in the first two months.
I am not trying to discourage you, on the contrary, I believe you need to have a realistic picture in order to plan effectively. As I said, I recovered full range of motion after a complete tendon tear, so I think it was totally worth the effort. I wish you all the best on this.

All the relevant details should have been discussed with you with enough time to do the necessary planning. That doctor`s conduct sounds very unprofessional. I was given a very clear picture of what was needed for a successful result to my case, and so should you. I know nothing at this point about shoulder replacement, only about tendon repair. You should get a second opinion asap and then decide if you want to confront that doctor again or look somewhere else for the appropriate solution. Praying that the process be as fast and painless for you as possible,
Marta
