And MY Lana Cash came today . . . Of course you are not weird - most everyone squishes yarn and inhales - right?
I was hoping mine would get here today, but my mailpeople are not very industrious.

Learning Continental Style Knitting I find that left finger position very odd and fatiguing, whether in knitting or crochet, and really unnecessary. But I agree that it is a personal thing, and whatever works...

Learning Continental Style Knitting OK, I had to look at my fingers to see what I do, and will try to describe as best I can...
The yarn goes over my left index finger, under the next two fingers and over the pinkie. Sometimes I wrap it around the pinkie, but rarely (frankly I don`t know why or when, I`ll have to pay attention next time I do it). My left hand is kind of loosely wrapped around the needle and the knitted fabric, with the thumb and left index finger doing the main holding. It is a very comfortable, natural position for me, like bringing your thumb and fingers together in a relaxed way.
It is basically the way I watched my paternal aunts knit when I was little ("german" style, it was called). My cousins knitted "english" style, which is throwing. I learned it too at some point, as well as the "yarn around the neck" method, because they intrigued me, but I always returned to my first love...lol

In crochet, I hold the yarn the same way, only all the fingers of my entire left hand are slightly more extended, to hold the fabric. I hold the hook pencil-style with my right hand. My hands prefer knitting to crochet nowadays, and I think it is the position that makes the difference.

Does this make any sense to you?

Thinking about the Pakucho Isn`t it a great yarn? I even toyed with the idea of making an afghan (adult size) with several shades, but was stopped by concerns about the final weight. But I got most of the colors/amounts stashed (I`ve chipped at some for baby items) and it is not totally out of my mind yet...

Ravelry Invite, and Thank You Hope he has a quick recovery. Our youngest son, who was born while we lived in Ann Arbor, had a procedure done at that same hospital - great experience as far as hospitals go...

Email Update Oh, that is infuriating!!! I am so lucky - and spoiled - that DH solves all the problems in our systems. Take heart, it will all get solved eventually...

Two great, new-to-me tips Good ideas!

Sandra, the idea of starting/ending yarn near the crossing of the cables is also very useful in scarves or anything reversible. I`ve used it a lot.

And Diane, that is such a smart twist to the hole idea!

In my experience, wool/silk combinations can "grow" quite a bit with that first washing, so measuring the swatch before and after washing became a must for me when the final dimensions are critical. Of course the safest bet is to wash the yarn before knitting...

Sportsfans, what`s on the needles- I should be concentrating solely on finishing two DGS sweaters and knitting two more (to cover all four grandkids) plus sewing one for myself that has been waiting since the spring, but I also started a Voyager and an entrelac wrap...Then will come fingerless mitts for gifts, a cardi for me and a sweater for DH, with several more scarves for gifts in between, the list keeps expanding faster than my knitting time.

Good to see you are up to joking - good sign!
Take good care of yourself. Prayers for a very fast and complete recovery going your way. That cake will taste very good one of these days...

My latest thorny issue I would just add to that that if a baby is very small (young, I mean), he/she will not pull the hat off, so ties are not needed.
