I`m going to camp!!

I`m so happy for you. This year Stitches West was just in my backyard - and I had to miss it because of the broken ribs! I`m sure you`ll have a lot of fun. Marta

Best book for starting & finishing projects?
|
I second Benne`s choice. This book has helped me overcome my fear of finishing, and helped me see things I used to hack through by trial and error. It covers a lot of ground for a relatively small book, and I find it perfect to have on hand for quick consultations. Marta

Les, what a great hat and model!

Is your DD the recipient? It looks absolutely great on her. Marta
P.S.: Thanks for sharing the clownish mitten. How reassuring to see that even the experts sometimes make mistakes...The colors are beautiful, though.

Basking In The Glow of Organisation

Wow, Eileen! If I could get that much done while so sick with the flu...lol That database sounds perfect, and it is very generous of you to offer it. I am taking you up on that offer - when you feel better, there is no hurry. Make sure you get enough rest, to get rid of the virus remnants once and for all! Thanks, Marta (martardiasatyahoodotcom)

Casual Cables cardigan
|
Benne, while your mind is on this subject, I am going to ask you a question about this pattern, which I bought last fall. I remember you mentioned that even though you made gauge, you would knit it one size larger if you did it again. Is it because your finished size was different from the size the finished on the pattern, or because you decided you would prefer it larger?
Marta who is clearing the way and inching ever so slowly towards starting her cardi...hopefully still in this lifetime...lol

Well, I am not yet "using" any yarn, because I am still dreaming of making it...I have ended up with enough PC alpaca in bisque, white and gray, so eventually I will finish all the other things that are in the way and get going on it, probably in bisque (at least that was the original idea...)lol Thanks for the prompt answer. Marta

I am really looking forward to doing the alpaca, and this idea of HW may work for another one (as a present) afterwards. Do I keep dreaming or what?!!LOL Yep, I saw all the pictures, and that raspberry almost got me - but I already had all the other colors (the greywas for another project that is on hold), plus the blue, plus untold other yarns waiting - oh, you get the picture, one has to stop somewhere, however painful it may be!!!LOL Sometime in the future... blocking technique for cotton yarn
|
Hi Gail,
You may get better answers from more experienced knitters here, but in her book about finishing techiques, Nancy Wiseman recommends the wet towel method for cotton, or - my favorite method - dampening the (finished) piece, running it (very) briefly in the dryer in low and then drying it flat. Good luck. Marta

Punctuation marks or not, that is such a fresh-looking, sunny hat! Absolutely adorable! Did you knit it in the round? Marta (Can you tell I too ordered Esprit - to knit for the upcoming new DGS?)

Shortening Sleeves
|
Alice, you reminded me of something I had totally forgotten - lenghtening the sleeves of my children`s sweaters was practically the only knitting I had time and energy to do while they were growing up, and well worth the effort on the special outfits you don`t want to put away so fast... Marta

Thanks, Bets. Please don`t hold your breath about my projects...lol Hats and booties are high on my list - and now, how am I going to keep my brain from uhhh... "emulating" your hat?!!!LOL(You know what they say about imitation being the highest compliment...) Seriously now, Esprit also seems perfect to me for sweaters/cardis/pants or a babygro (as the British call it) for a June baby, but the hand-wash only concerns me. The last thing I want is for DDIL to have to worry about handwashing a newborn`s clothes. So I am still mulling possibilities... OTOH, I made a headband for myself some time ago, to keep the wind off my ears on walks at the beach without adding unneeded warmth, and it is still fine after being thrown in the washing machine a couple of times... Any experience on this?

OK, I don`t have any lime green, so whatever I end up making will not have exactly the same look as yours - as IF I could achieve Your look!!!How presumptious can I be?!!!LOL But I`ll have fun trying to get close... I seem to recall you mentioning family in the Bay Area - how about a visit? Do let me know if you come this way! I have never been to New Mexico or Texas, so maybe in a future visit to DD in AZ we`ll keep going east on H10 and end up at your coffee bar...That would be fun too! Thanks for the input.
