My favorite yarn company is..... Oh let`s see.....in no particular order

Our sponsors here, of course
Koigu (I would gladly lounge in a pile of this.)
Lang (but hardly ever buy except on sale because they are pretty pricey for basic yarns; excellent quality, though)
Silk City (I`m really excited that elann is carrying them, because I like their yarns but they are a bit hard to come by...when they get the VALENTINA, my life will be perfect--it`s the Muench Touch Me stuff but at a better price) HINT HINT!
Muench (hardly ever see it in stores)
Jo Sharp (SILK ROAD regular just floats my boat; it`s all such great fiber)
Jaeger (again, hardly ever buy because it`s pricey for plain wools, but that Fur stuff in wool is just fabulous--it`s such a step up from the synthetic fun fur yarns)
My handspun!
Artfibers (Have you seen some of their wilder stuff? It`s really great)
Noro (for the colors; I`m not crazy about the quality of some of the fiber, esp. the wool)

I`m sure I`m forgetting something because my brain is on "slow" because of lack of sleep and decent food. But those are the brands that come to mind first.

Silk City Soft Stretch? Does anyone know much about this stuff? How stretchy is it? What would you use it for? I`ve never seen it but it sounds intriguing.

My favorite yarn company is..... Yes, it`s finished. It`s got warts (in the form of bad editing and proofreading--I simply can`t see them anymore), but it is turned in!!!!!

I`m so pooped. I even lost a LOT of hair in the past few weeks because of the stress, and no (unfortunately) I`m not kidding.

It takes almost an ENTIRE ream of paper to print it out. I think that it has more than 1000 footnotes (remember: this is academia, and a dissertation, so I have to bow down to all the gods who have gone before me). Hauled four copies around campus right before 5 pm.

Then I went to pick strawberries from my garden. If it would only RAIN my garden would look better. It`s really dry here in Chicagoland.

But it`s done, it`s done. Hopefully they will think it`s okay.

Hello World and a Suggestion for the Elann Goddesses I have emerged from the cave.

I turned in the thesis yesterday--when I printed it out and it took almost a ream of paper to print out one copy, I knew that I had accomplished something. How well I accomplished it will be decided in a couple of weeks when I have my defense. I`m so very, very exhausted. It`s 2 pm and I`ve barely accomplished anything. But that`s okay for a couple of days.

One thing I`ve thought about recently is this bulletin board. First, it`s really great that this little community is out there, as you guys are so nice. But I`ve found recently that the format means that it`s easy to miss a conversation where you are being addressed. Benne has been so nice as to think about me and my thesis, but we keep posting messages under different threads. If you aren`t able to check all the time, you tend to miss messages really meant for you.

There are other things that the message board does which are very nice--the ability to have the pictures (though I always want to click on them to make them bigger so that I can admire someone`s work in more detail) and the profiles are great.

But the fact that this board doesn`t bump messages up to the top is sometimes a little frustrating. Perhaps eventually Elann can think about moving to a bulletin board program that does this.

PhpBB is one that is free, open-sourceware (http://www.phpbb.com/). (If you`ve ever visited the chatroom at Knitty, this is the program that they use.) But I`m sure that the computer experts out there can recommend others. The bump-up aspect, ability to preview messages, html formatting options, smilies, and the ability to send personal messages are really nice features on PhpBB.

Anyhoo, long message. Sorry about that. I`m going back to take a nap, I think and eventually find my knitting--when I uncover it in the mess that is my home.

Hello World and a Suggestion for the Elann Goddesses Really? Well, I certainly missed it. It does get a little frustrating to miss stuff. Hopefully they will do something about it soon enough.

Hello World and a Suggestion for the Elann Goddesses Well, I`m going into the world where I might get googled by my students a lot so I`m probably not going to post a bio or a pic here. I also once had a stalker ex-boyfriend, so I`m very wary of posting things that might remain in cyberspace forever.

But perhaps I`ll send out a short bio to people who signed up for "real email" list which MacChick is putting together as soon as it`s finalized. It`s not that I`m antisocial--just a little hesitant.

The defenses I`ve been to have been a sort of discussion/lovefest, so I`m not really scared. I do expect to be asked questions that might throw me, but I don`t expect to freak out about it. Of course, this is also the voice of a person who is just very, very tired and probably couldn`t muster the energy to freak out at the moment.

MacChick...Fabulous shawl & modeling! It is fabulous....can I impersonate the ballet teacher? Would that get me a shawl like that. Wow!!!!

Totally OT - Is anyone else sick of Tom Cruise? I was hating him big time when he was talking on the Today show. All that crap about "Psychiatric drugs are a sham. I`ve read the reports." And bashing someone (Brooke Shields) because she took medication for post-partum depression. Ya know what, MDs have also read all the medical reports, and experience shows that some medications help some people. He was a jerk. Lauer was a total class act and hit him with good questions--which Cruise didn`t answer, as he had to go back to the "I`ve read the reports BS."

I found myself wishing that he would have a major psychotic break so that he might find out that some medications do work for some people. (OK, so i`m not a perfect person.) It`s just not okay to bash someone else for a medical problem, like post-partum depression. Though I`ve never had it, I have heard enough to feel that post-partum depression is very, very dangerously real.

Totally OT - Is anyone else sick of Tom Cruise? Totally with you, Benne. And obnoxious to profess to know what is best for Brooke Shields or anybody else with postpartum depression. Geez. He`s seriously off his rocker.

Sneak Peeks! Yikes! Am I in trouble or what??? Wow. I`m not even a "cotton person," but this stuff looks great. Oy. What`s a girl to do?

Emily3cat - We`re all with you at your defense Ya`ll are the best! It`s a 2:00 today. I need to read the dissertation again before then, as I haven`t looked at it since I finished it two weeks ago today.

I`ll check in when it`s over and the festivities have passed. It might be tomorrow before I check in again with a report.

Call me Dr. 3cat I passed my defense!

It was a bit strange, as one reader couldn`t be there. He had been in a car accident out of town; he wasn`t hurt, but apparently the car was totalled. Unfortunately, he was my primary advisor, so it was very strange not to have him there, and I still have no idea of what he thinks of the work, nor when he might be back in town. I guess he must have given his approval to the chair over the phone because I got the "congrats" and champagne. But it was strange because the chapter doesn`t seem closed to me.

But, in any case, I seem to have passed, so that`s good.

Okay, we`ve shared toothaches and now backaches Poor duckie foster mom!

Benne Benne, I`m so sorry about your duckies.

Good that you keep the kitty inside. It`s better for her; plus, you get to hear her when she probably chatters like crazy while looking at birdies. My kitties` tails go a million miles per hour as they dream about all the yummy birdies they would like to eat.
