Yes, it may be YEARS before the house sees new paint. Or paint by degrees. I won`t have the time to do it myself. The first bid was for $10K. My goodness. That`s probably a third of my take-home pay per year.

Well, Iowa is good for antiquing. Lots cheaper than big cities. So, anyone who wants to come out is welcome to come spin/knit/antique/paint!
The problem is that I have to do research and publish during the summer. If I don`t publish, then I won`t be able to keep the job past 5 years when I have tenure-review. So, I really, really can`t do it myself. I got two estimates. Both were for 2-3 people for 10-14 days. So, for one (inexperienced) person, that`s 42 days of solid, uninterrupted painting (erring on the high side for being inexperienced). That`s too much time for someone who has to be extra productive during the summers and weekends. I`m already working at my job about 70 hours a week as it is!

Yep. Human kids aren`t in my future. No way to do all that on the tenure clock without a partner.
