Hey....you guys are making me very nervous. My little boy who is now all grown up, is moving to North Carolina next week. He is from a city where nothing ever happens weather wise. Anybody know what North Carolina gets as far as inclement weather. Wcwlyn

Mother`s Day ideas?

Bets....I would definately stay away from the Pedicure for any senior. Foot care for a senior is a very special thing. It`s more like health care than the fun spa stuff the younger girls like. Around here you have to be certified to do a Senior`s feet because of the prevalence of diabetes etc. And, how many Seniors do you see with bare feet?......or is that just for those of us up north with cold feet.
We had a birthday party for my MIL last week when she turned 96. Someone brought her a great gift. It was a big pile of greeting cards for all different occasions. MIL loves to keep in touch with her friends and to send cards to grandchildren etc. but is unable to get out shopping for the cards. The Giftee added some pretty stamps and some flower stickers for the envelopes and made her very happy.
If you are lucky enough to live near her, (or not) I bet she would like the gift of your time to take her places like seeing all the Spring flowers etc. Those kinds of gifts are priceless. Let us know what you finally decide to get her. Evelyn

Libby, you almost brought a tear to my eyes as well. You are truly blessed to have such a beautiful talented little girl. She will "catch up" on her own time and you are such a good Mommy to give her all of yourself to help her get there. Good for you. Evelyn

OT - love hate relationship with technology

Man....you guys are way over my head with this techy stuff. I`m known in my family as the computer expert, but I just have to listen to your conversations and I realize how far behind I am. Or maybe my family is too old fashioned to even consider being techy.

Project bag idea

Marta You will probably see them at the Duty free Liquor store at the airport. But, as you know everything at the airport is so expensive. Our Ontario Liquor stores do a lot of advertising about their accessaries. They publish the most beutiful brochures advertising their products and have have great recipe`s in them. My DIL who lives in Alberta has us in Ontario send them to her as their stores aren`t big advertisers.

My thoughts and prayers are with you SK. This weather is really new for Canada. We don`t seem to get the bad stuff but that is all changing. You take care and let us know how things are.

Benne, I know for sure that this will turn out very well for you. I have worked with a few Chinese doctors and they sure are brilliant. I remember looking after eye surgery patients 20 years ago and it was soooo very different than it is now. They can perform miracles with wonderful results on nearly everyone they operate on. We will all be praying for you but I think you would do just fine without us, if you had too. You can thank ACB for giving us all the friendships we depend on with this site. Take care, Love Evelyn

Double Point Needles (Sock Knitters?)
|
I prefer wooden dpn`s. I bought a whole set, every size you could imagine on e-bay. They were really cheap. I think they came from Japan and were a little rough but with a small amount of sanding and oiling, they are perfect. Works well when you need the very small size for that special project but wil never use them again. Evelyn

Baby Blanket

Sounds beautiful Libby. I really like the idea of the verse. It makes it very personal. Will you embroider it on? I don`t know where you get all the time to do these things. I guess it`s true that if you want something done, ask a busy person and it wil be done. That`s you. Take care and make sure you post a picture of the blanket when it`s done. Evelyn

Theresa - your spoon "problem"
|
My husband is a frequent "Dremel" user and has been for many years. I put your question to him and this was his answer.
1. Throw the spoon out 2. If you can`t part with it, use the Aluminum Oxide Grinding Wheel They are usually grey and sometimes green and occasionally pink.
How`s that for a description of the correct tool for the job? Show`s you how many years he and the Dremel go back.
Hope this helps.......Evelyn

I`ll try this again.
My DH said that you definately would have to polish the spoon after grinding but first you would have to wet sand it with progressive types of sand paper from a course grit to a fine grit and then polish. The type of work you have to do to save the spoon is much like auto body repair and they could advise you better than anyone. Do you know anyone in the business?
Don said he doubts whether you could find anyone at Home Depot who knows how to fix it, although you could buy the sandpaper there. Just remember that you have to keep the spoon wet while you are sanding it.
So you start with the dremel and then the sand paper and then polish it.
Seems like a lot of work for a spoon. Wouldn`t you rather be knitting?
Good Luck with this and be sure to keep me posted on your progress. Evelyn

Does anyone have a Boye needlemaster and knitpicks options?

If you`re looking for a glue that sticks anything to anything, there is nothing better than "two-part epoxy". You can find it in most glue sections of stores and that is exactly what it is called. It comes in two substances which you mix just a small amount of each and mix it good and it sticks perfectly........Evelyn

Over-dyeing anyone?

Hey Jayne - Can I come to the dying party too?
Back when I was taking my advanced cake decorating courses, I was taught that if you want to get black (using Wilton`s of course) you first add red to get a deep red and then you add black. This way you won`t use as much black. Does this hold true for dying wool too? Have you ever heard of this rule? Evelyn
