Yarn money all went to the Police Dept./OT
|
I was doing a good deed today and took my 96 yr.old MIL to her docs appt. I parked in the desabled spot. She has a disabled parking permit but I used my own. Came back to the car and had a $300.00 ticket for parking in a disabled spot with an out of date permit. I didn`t realize that it expired in October 2007. It`s just up on my sun visor and I never look at it. Anybody here married to a sweet police officer. I need some advice. I can understand charging that much for the people who sneak in there without a permit but I am officially disabled and I just have a lazy brain when it comes to remembering these things. I didn`t get any pity from my husband so I`m looking for it here since it will take up lots of yarn money.

Suzann..your incident sounds promising. Our parking is not associated with the Police though. There is a separate department that handles just parking enforcement. I just thought of something....my daughter is the Chief of Building in another city. They handle parking stuff at her office so maybe she has an idea. Thanks for all your replies....I knew you could make me feel better...and I do.

I spoke to my daughter and her advice was basically the same as all of you. So I am going to get a new permit ASAP and then go to the parking authority office accompanied by my walker and look very pathetic. I will admit that it was my error and apolagize while I show them my DMIL`s permit which is valid and was in her purse at the time, plus my new one. I will come right out and ask them if they can either reduce it or cancel it since I am a valid disabled person. As I turn and limp out of their office I will have a tear coming down my cheek and a tiny little smile on my lips. I will let you know of the outcome. Again, many thanks for those of you who gave me my confidence back. Wow, what a sappy old lady! Maybe I could take them each a purse. Ha Ha.

I found out that I`m a lousy knitter
|
I have wondered for a long time if I really was a true knitter. As you know I always make felted things. My knitting on them always looks great but of course if I did blow it the felting hides it.
My DD asked me to make her some fingerless gloves since she has to work outside a lot and hold a pen.I ordered some of the Mario Niccoli Ponte Vecchio to knit these for her. I picked a very simple pattern `cause I had a suspicion I would run into trouble.
I started today... twice. I`m just doing a knit2 purl2 cuff and do you think I can get it right. I don`t know if it`s my fingers or what it is. I guess I`m not used to knitting with such small needles and a thinner yarn. Did anybody else find this wool to split? I`m even using those colorful wooden DP`s from KnitPicks.
I`m making such stupid mistakes, like ending up with an extra stitch on one needle etc. When I try to fix it I split the yarn and don`t know where the heck I am. Every time I start a sweater, I do this...make stupid mistakes. And this has been going on for a few years yet I keep trying.
Should I just keep felting? or sell all my wool.
Now guys...I`m not seeking compliments on my purses...I serioously have a problem here. I`m feeling very inadequate right now.....especially when I see all of your beautiful knitting on the sidebar. Another thing...I joined Ravelry and haven`t got a clue what to do with it. Maybe I`m just stupid, but I am a registered nurse so that can`t be true. What a mess.

Hi Bets I also find that working at a table or desk is the best when doing tricky knitting. Actually I feel much better sitting upright at my desk rather than watching tv in a comfy chair.
Did you get any of the wool I mentioned? If so did it aplit for you?
My name on Ravelry is Baggednurse. I don`t know what I was thinking when I chose that one. There is not much for you to see there on my spot. What is your name? Maybe I can go there to see how it`s done.
You`re right about coming back to this place. This is where our friends are. It`s really kind of unusual that things have turned out that way and how we are so "close" to each other. This is the first place I think of when things get tough.
About the knitting...maybe I should change to another type of yarn until I get good at it. I have 16" Addi`s but I think they would be a little large for something like a glove. I should get some 12" ones. I don`t even remember seeing that length. I wrote to Knitpicks once to ask if they were adding any shorter cords and they said yes but it hasn`t happened yet. I`ll check to see if Ann has them. I prefer to order here first.
That`s funny how many times you twist your wool on the dp`s. I have never done that...just lucky.

Wow, I`m so absolutely overwhelmed with the advice and friendship you have all offered to me tody. I think that somehow, deep inside, we all know that if we`re down about some knitting failures we can always count on our Elann friends to keep us going.
I`m going to put to good use all of your suggestions and sometime in the future you might see some fingerless mitts on the sidebar with my name on it. How can anyone give up when they have Elann friends.
Another thing going against me is that I can`t stop thinking about certain things. I have that darn ticket to solve, and I`m giving it my all. My son`s wife is only 40 and she is very ill with kidney failure. This came on suddenly and they found that both kidneys are not functioning and can`t find the cause. Just when they were about to start invitro fertilization with a donor egg. They are moving in 2 weeks to an apartment until they can get their papers in order to move to North Carolina. My poor little 18 yr. old kitty is dying, also from renal failure. So with all these things on my mind, I should be able to knit to keep my mind clear. Maybe I should knit another purse right now. Anyway, thank you my friends for being so good to me.

Do you think we might someday meet in person? You know everyone says to be careful of the people you meet on the internet. You just never know.... My son plans on moving down in April. They have an apartment in Toronto until September so they are hoping by then everything will be in order for them to legally move.
Of course I will be visiting but we don`t have passports as of yet. We`re hoping that the governments of both of our countries will accept this new driver`s license instead. Our gov`t is all ready to go and start to make them as soon as Mr. Bush says they will accept them for ID. They will have our picture on it and fingerprints and a computer chip with our entire life story on it. It will cost us about a hundred dollars each to get new passports so we were just hoping that we could bypass them and just use this new method.
If our DDIL turns out to need continuing treatments I`m sure she will stay here where we know the health care system a little better. We should have a pretty good idea what it is this Thursday.I`m really worried. She is a cute little Chinese girl and we love her to death.
I spent some time with my kitty Sarah tonight and I know I should be taking her in for euthansia but I just can`t do it...not when she enjoys me spending time with her so much.I wish she would just not wake up some day...I can handle that. My friend who died last summer was a real cat person so I`m sure she will take good care of Sarah.
I went onto Ravelry tonight and managed to put my picture on the site....that`s progress. It`s amazing what you can accomplish after hearing the good wishes from this chat site. Till next time.....Love Evelyn

Wonderful news Laura. I`m just wondering why they have to remove it. I have several nodules and cysts on my thyroid and they are treating it with drugs. It was monitored for about 8 years and no further growth so I just have to stay on Tapazole for life. I have hyPERthyroidism. I didn`t think they removed the thyroid for no reason other than a malignancy. Whatever happens, it`s good news for you. Evelyn

I bet they`ll find the groundhog frozen down in his little hole. When they try to get him out on Feb 2, he`ll yell at them saying, "Are you guys kidding", I`ll freeze my whiskers off in this cold.

Totally OT-about your measuring cups---
|
About 6 years ago I did a wonderful thing. We decided we needed a more "senior friendly" house without stairs. So my house designer husband, who had been hired to design a whole street of new houses, picked the very best lot and designed a house fit for the two of us. We upgraded absolutely everything in the house. Working on a cancer ward, I had seen how your life can be swept out from under you in a flash, so I felt that you should live your life with as much fun as possible from day to day. We sold every stick of furniture and gave away all of our kitchen stuff, towels, linens etc. Then I went shopping and had the time of my life. I filled the new house with everything new. It was just like getting married again only with the same groom...that`s the only thing I kept. I now have a total of 13 measuring cups of all different sizes and colours and design. Some days I have all of them out on the counter in use. We are not rich people by any means but with careful financial planning it worked for us. Evelyn

Hi there and welcome to the family. Don`t forget to put your biography in so we can all learn about you. I think you might be the first from New Mexico. I`m from Canada but we have vacationed in New Mexico and we love it. I think you will like it here. Evelyn

Maximum feltorama???
|
Hi Bets...in my experience...the wool does exactly what it wants to do. There isn`t any wool that acts the same even with identical number of stitches and the same yarn. I must say that the HW is very good at being predictable but not any others. I have a couple of cell phone cases that were knit just like the purses but they decided to felt smaller.SWS wool keep going, I know that. If I find that some of mine don`t felt enough and I have to give it another hit, I usually wait until it is completely dry and then try again. This works better than just leaaving it in and wet until it goes down smaller. I also block it lightly while drying even though I`m going to put it back in the water. Some creases won`t come out no matter what you do. Hope this helps. Evelyn

Thanks Bri....it is a commission but I have this sneaky suspician that the girl won`t be coming back for it. She ordered it in December and when I called her to say it was finished, I got the feeling she had forgotten. She said she would pick it up today (Payday) but it`s 10 pm and I haven`t heard from her. That`s fine though...I wanted one like this for myself.

OT Husband is a bit broken
|
I`m with Bets. Stop catering to him until he starts to act like an adult. He is no different than any other man...must be the testosterone.
My theory...when a person hurts him/herself, or shows the need for a doctor, he/she no longer has the priveledge of being in control of the situation. The caretaker must go to him and say,"This is what we are going to do". Then lay it out to him that you have a appointment with his doc and he is going. There shouldn`t be any "talking him into it". Tell him you have the appointment and if he won`t go, then you will call an ambulance to take him there. Hopefully, he will be down those stairs before you know it. I would think the "cause" of the fainting would be more of a concern than the ankle and cuts. Is he on any BP meds? Good Luck Suzann....hope something works for you. I can understand your concern and frustration. Evelyn
