Hi Cheryl....Hope you are up and at it soon. I too had bilateral knee replacement at the same time. The only thing I can say is it`s He_ _ no matter how you look at it. It`s been 5 years for me now and I still can`t bend my knees very much. For those of you who can`t imagine how this feels, try sitting on the floor, and then get yourself up with stiff knees. You can`t bend them a bit. Can you do it???
Then when you are good enough to go outside maybe for a walk or shopping by yourself, you have this fear that you might fall and be stuck there forever. I fell once on some ice. Fortunately my husband was with me but he couldn`t get me up on his own. I was unable to help myself at all. He had to go into a Vet`s office and get 2 big guys to come out and the three of them got me up. How embarrasing.
So Cheryl, once you can bend those knees, you have your work cut out for you. You will have to work harder than you ever have before on physiotherapy. Keep your positive attitude and that will get you farther than anything else. The bonus is that the pain goes away for the most part and that is wonderful after what you felt prior to your surgery.
I still use a walker to get around outside of the house. I found it embarrasing at first but have found if I want to be independent, that`s how I have to do it.
Take care and keep us informed. Evelyn

Blogging Etiquette??

Not always necessary...depends on the situation. I`m sure the Harlot can`t even THINK of responding to everyone. It`s kind of like sending a thank-you card for a thank-you card. It could go on for ages. Evelyn

Evelyn`s Purse
|
Thank you everyone. I make all my bags with Lopi. I`m using Lopi Lett now because they have such nice colours and I just double up on the wool. I love the fuzzy effect. The needle felting is done by first outlining the design with regular strands of wool. Then you use the roving to fill it in and mostly cover the outline. Then you add more here and there until you get the look you want. I find I start to knit the purse and by the time I`m part way through the rest of the design has taken shape in my mind. I love needle felting. It`s so much fun and nobody can figure out how you did it. It`s really sturdy too. Not going to come off. I guess the fun is what it`s all about. That`s why we knit. And I will be selling this one. I haven`t kept any for myslef. It`s just not me. Ha Ha.

Evelyn`s Purse

I sent another picture of the purse with the flap closed. The pink flower beside it is felted as well. I knit some big squares of stockinette stitch, felted it and then cut out the petals and sewed it together. The pattern is in Nicky Epstein`s Knitted Flowers book. Great book for embellishments.

Thank you Les. The closure is magnetic and you have to cover the ugly metal thingie on the back with something without taking away from the bag. I had some beads that are the exact colour of the bag so I used them. I bought some of those buttons that you put fabric on and make your own fabric buttons. I`m going to needle felt a piece of fabric to see if I can make something more attractive for covering the ugly metal thing.

Svetlana....I have seen your knitting on your blog and I`m amazed at how beautiful it is. If you can knit like that, I`m sure that a little instruction on purse lining would teach you all you need to know about sewing. Your work is incredible....a true artist.
