Benne -- in honor of Max
|
Hi Benne I have to tell you how sorry I was to hear about Max. I know exactly what it`s like to lose a fantastic pet. They love you always without any restrictions. Even if you have just had to scold them, they will always come to give kisses to forgive.
Last October, I lost my beautiful Katie. She was the best cat ever. She was a black and white long haired beauty. I always believed she was put on this earth just for me. When I picked her up she would put both arms around my neck and hug for dear life. She only had this attention for me. We were quite the pair. Katie was 16 when we lost her to kidney failure. I am now able to think of her with a huge smile on my face as I remember the most wonderful girl on earth. I still have her sister Sarah, who is also 16. Sarah has hyperthyroid disease but is doing well. She is not the loving girl that Katie was but we love her just the same. She is still grieving a lot. I give her lots of attention to fill the void in her life.
So, Benne, I hope that you will soon be able to remember your Max with a big grin and no more pain.
As always, Evelyn

I can`t get rid of the holes !!!
|
Can anyone help me with a stupid question?
When you come to a place in a pattern where you "make a stitch" by picking up the "ladder" part between two knit stitches, I always get a hole in my work. It happens when I put the thumb in mittens. I have these holes all along the sides of the thumb. I know there is a way to avoid the holes but I can`t figure out what it is.
Thanks for your help guys! Evelyn

socks!
|
Hi antmeg I finished my one sock tonight. I kind of goofed the toe though. After successful turning the heel and making the gussett, I was very proud of myself. I even had the correct number of stitches on my needles. However the number of stitches was uneven on the 3 needles. So, being a person of things being always even and neat, I moved some of the stitches onto adjoining needles to make it look better. Then when I got to the toe decrease, I was screwed, so to speak. I was not aware ahead of time that the position of certain stitches on the needles, whether it`s needle one, two or three, was VERY IMPORTANT. So that little band of decreasing stitches was on top and the other was about 5 stitches from it. But you can`t see this once you have shoes on....right?
The yarn I used was a ball of old babywool that I had around because it was my practise sock. It kept splitting on me and so there are some "untidy" spots but all in all, it turned out nice.
Now I`m ready to start a real pair with the proper sock yarn. I have decided to put some kind of marking on my bamboo sock needles to indicate which number that needle is. I`ll do this with nail polish.
I`m using a book called, "Learn to knit socks" which has been very helpful.
So that`s my sock story......I will carry on. Evelyn

What a looker!!!

Wow Bets!!! You not only had your hair cut but you took between 10 & 20 years off your appearance. What a difference. The happy smile is always how I had pictured you in my mind.
You did a very good deed donating your locks. Maybe some little girl will now have a wig made of your hair and she will get back all her self esteem. Remember if you put that dye on it, you can`t donate it next time.....`cause you won`t be a VIRGIN. Something to think about. You can always just spray some flashy colour on it and then wash it out when you don`t like it anymore.
You`re a sharp looking ducky. Evelyn

Crazy Acronyms

Hi Billie I`m a registered nurse and we often saw PITA on the charts. Another one was FLK. This one means funny looking kid. Sometimes when babies are born they are labelled FLK and several tests are run to see if they have any signs of abnormalities etc. Usually though the parents would come in and they were also FLA (adults) so we knew that the baby was normal. KATIA BOOK NO. 44 PATTERN NO. 37 PAGE 68
|
hi everybody... I am having a horrible time trying to make this pattern work and suddenly wondered whether someone out there had any suggestions. The problem is casting on additional stitches at the end of a row by doing a reverse loop onto the left hand needle and then knitting in the loop. What is a reverse loop? I have tried wrapping the yarn and the stitch just doesn`t look right. HELP!!! thanks...

Vacation purchases and problems

I was told recently by a yarn expert that circ`s and straights should never be neasured on the same needle sizer. This person told me that ALL circs can be accurately measured on the Addi gizmo and the straights on any other brand. Seems to be lots of opinions on this subject. Guess you just have to swatch and make your own decisions. Evelyn

Have any of you found the Divine to be scratchy? I made my daughter a beautiful scarf out of it and she couldn`t stand it on her skin. It looks so soft, I wonder what the problem was. Allergies maybe??? Evelyn
