Evelyn Thank you for all your good comments.
Bets - I don`t have a pattern. I just pick up the needles and start knitting. They evolve as I`m knitting them. That`s the nice thing about doing bags....you don`t have to fit anyone.
I will be selling them from my home. My husband is an established glass artist and he has a following of people who come a couple of times a year for our open house studio tours.
The prices you have suggested are in line with my thoughts. Usually with things like this, you start out with a conservative price until you have the interest of the public and then move the prices up where they actually pay you for your time. Actually, I would like to just recover my investment at this time so I can spend it at Elann,(or pay for what I have actually bought so far).
I showed my bags at an open studio tour in September and the interest was enthusiastic so I have some people coming back to buy them, hopefully. I`m amazed at how my skills improved since getting that positive feedback. That`s one of the beautiful things about this chat site. The encouragement you receive from your fellow knitters really boosts your ability.
Thank you so much for all of your input.

Jamie, your spam filter kicked me again! Bets - let us know how your sale of scarves goes. Too bad you don`t have the weather we have today to boost sales....of coffee as well as scarves. It`s -6C and the snow should be coming later today. On second thought, I don`t think you would want this weather.
I live in a General Motors town and with the news of late, I don`t think anyone will be buying frivolous things like felted bags.
Good luck to you......Evelyn

Photo gallery You can see by my pictures that I was struggling. The blue bag has something funny going on. What? I`ll never know.

Evelyn Wowee....thanks for the comments Ann.Would there be any relationship to your advice and the fact that I want to spend my profits at Elann?..Just kidding. I`m honored that all of you feel they are nice. Tonight I tried my hand at needle felting one of my bags. I`ll post a picture if I can manage to resize it successfully. Just because I can knit doesn`t mean I`m a computer genious. I guess you can`t have it all.

Needlefelting bag Yes Bets....it was fun. It`s not an expensive part of the project. I bought the beginners kit from Elann and then found some coloured roving on e-bay. One ounce of roving is very inexpensive and there are many colours available, but not in Canada, of course. I was pleasantly surprised to have it arrive today with no duty to pay. That`s a break. Usually the duty is as much as the product you`re buying.
Unfortunately I lack the artistic talent to "draw" a pattern before I begin but I am getting some assistance from my DH. I thought it was pretty good for the first try at it. It really is fun and doesn`t take too long. I don`t have any idea how long it will last on the bag. Doesn`t seem to be too secure so I will do some more needling on it. I did it without any injuries to my digits and I understand that`s unusual.
Go ahead and give it a try. I would be interested in seeing what someone else`s looks like.

Question Re: the plastic tubing in the handle of my bags A little farther back, I was asked how I got the plastic tubing in the handle of the yellow felted bag. Here`s my secret. I made a buttonhole bag and I didn`t like it because I knit too much above the opening that would become the handle. I was planning on discarding the bag when I remembered that I bought the tubing. I merely laid the tubing on the top of the bag and folded it over and securely sewed the fold down with the tubing inside. That solved the problem of the wide brim on top and strenghened the handle.
The old brain is functioning on some days.

Speaking of needle felting! Les
I love it. What a great thing to buy just to look at.
That little apple takes a lot of talent and expertise. I would love to have one. Thanks for sharing. All these little things give us ideas to expand our craft.
Are the seeds made out of roving as well. Is it round or a "slice?"

Cute hat, Sandra! Love the hat Sandra. I may try something like that myself but my grandsons are hesitant to wear knitted stuff. Darn! And yours was by request. Lucky you. It sure is nice, I guess that`s why they ask for more.

Question Re: the plastic tubing in the handle of my bags Amy....in my case it was after felting. I don`t think I would do it before as you never know how much shrinkage you get with the wool. If it shrunk a lot, you would have a piece of tubing that was way too long.

Holiday traditions I started a tradition when we were first married.
I bought plain large red Christmas balls for the tree and used liquid glue to paint our names on them and then sprinkled them with metallic sprinkles. When our children arrived I made some for them. These are the very first ornaments to go on the tree and must be put on by the person themselves whose name is on them. Now these "children" are in their 40`s and can`t always be here to put their balls on the tree but I save them until they come. I still have a couple of the 40 yr. old glass balls with their names on them. I have bought wooden ornaments for the grandchildren with their names on them.
The original names on the children`s balls were "Billy" who now goes by the name of Wil and "Jayme" who now goes by the name of Jay.
Their children find this funny.
Hope this inspires you Bri as you and Charles start your lives together.
