Hi there I just discovered this marvellous company and have placed my first order. It seems too good to be true. These prices are phenomenal. Does everyone else feel that way? Any suggestions about felting their wool? I would appreciate anay comments on this subject. Thanks.....Evelyn

Welcome
|
Wow, I can see already that this is a nice site. Many thanks to those who took the time to welcome me. It`s really appreciated. You wanted to know about me??? I`m a registered nurse, and a Grandma to 4 boys. I live in Oshawa which is just an hour east of Toronto. I have been off work for a while because I`m sporting two new knees. They just wore out and now they are new again. I was upset about not being able to work so the doctor advised me to get a hobby. Now I have enough yarn to start my own store. I love felting handbags and I`ve made some really nice ones. It`s so hard to find 100% wool in the stores that I have had to search the web and I`m so glad I found this site. I`m married to a glass artist and I hope to be able to sell my bags at his open studio sales someday. I won`t do that until I think they are as good as I can possibly make them. I`m also a garden fanatic and our new house will be on a garden tour in 2006. Looking forward to corresponding with all of you. Thanks again......Evelyn

Welcome

Hi Christine...Thanks for the welcome. I will post some pictures for sure...as soon as I decide which ones I`m willing to let the world see. I`m not really good yet but each bag is a little better. I have a good feeling about this site. The people have been much more friendly than others I have sent remarks to. I think I`m going to be one of you. Thanks to everyone else who posted a welcome. I should receive my first shipment from Elan later this week and I`m so excited. Evelyn

ultimate knitting machine!
|
Hi bets I have been thinking seriously about getting one of these knitting machines. How do you like yours? I`m afraid of getting it and using it for a while and then putting it in storage for years. I have arthritis in both hands and I thought this would give me some relief. What do you think? What have you made with it? Thanks for your input.....Evelyn

You`re soooo right...the gardens are never finished. Last fall before I put things to bed for the winter, I had my husband cut out even more gardens and they are eagerly awaiting some plants. Still too cold here though. I will try to post a picture of my garden and maybe some of my husbands glass. This is my first try so don`t be surprised if it doesn`t appear. Evelyn

oh Evelyn how beautiful

Our goldifsh were just little 15 cent fish three years ago. I bought 30 and we lost about 5 or 6 the first year to natural causes. Now they have breeded and we have seven babies. They stay in the pond all winter and are now about 6 inches long and very fat. We don`t have any neighborhood cats, just two of our own. Most people now don`t let their cats go outside. We found a blue heron one day trying to get them but we have a large fiberglass alligataor that we move around daily and the heron thinks it`s real and has never returned. At a later date I`ll post another better picture. This one is so small you lose lots of the detail. Evelyn

Disaster strikes! Baby duck update

Wow, even though your posts reveal such sad stories, how fortunate you are to be able to get involved in such a wonderful hobby. I love animals so much....they are always your friend no matter what. I believe that every child should be raised with animals. I have a daughter in law who doesn`t agree with me. So, I make sure the boys have lots to see when they visit me. It`s only 2 kitties, a few fish, and lots of tadpoles but it`s something to teach them about life. Evelyn

All my new stuff
|
Well, it has arrived. My first Elann shipment consisting of 28 beautiful balls of Highland wool. I was pleased with the quality of the wool....so soft. I was surprised the ball was so small. I knit my felting projects with double yarns so I guess it`s just the same as other more expensive wools. The yardage is the same as the Lopi I have been using. Don`t know what my first project will be but I`m sure it will come to me very soon. Also, I bought myself an Ultimate Sweater Machine. We had a new Michael`s store open just 2 blocks from me and they had a 50% off coupon for their grand opening. I have always wanted to use these coupons with a high priced item so here was my chance. I am now in a state of confusion trying to get it going. Haven`t watched the video yet but I think I had better. I have set it up without any problems but when I slide the knitter for the first row, it jams and I have to start all over again with the elastic, the hem etc. Meanwhile my house is getting messier and messier. The dishwasher hasn`t been unloaded yet that ran last night so we had to go out to dinner today. The weather is beautiful and here I am in the house pouring over my instructions. Oh well, I`m sure I will have some success before the next couple of hours have gone by. I`m sure any of you who have one of these machines, has gone through the same frustration. I`ll get back to you soon with a picture of my new sweater knit by machine. Evelyn

A question for Bets and Benne Re: the sweater machine
|
Hi there I have spent this beautiful weekend with it`s warm sunny above seasonal temperatures practising on my knitting machine. I have found it to be very frustrating. I would like to know if you went through the same things. First time I tried it, it jammed every time. I walked away and came back to it later when I was able to do a couple of rows without crashing. Each time I tried it got a little better and I was very impressed with the eveness of the stitches. However, I have yet to "complete" any projects. Just when it seems to be going right it either jams or I knock the hem off or some stupid thing. I`m not very good at fixing my mistakes. Was it like that for you too? Are either of you using it on a regular basis and feel it was worth the frustration? I`m afraid to say that it has made me not want to knit anymore. Boo Hoo. I`m going to have one of my Mothers Day chocolates at this early hour in the morning just to say I deserved it ! Thanks for your help......Evelyn

A question for Bets and Benne Re: the sweater machine
|
Hey Benne....what do you say we book a flight to Texas with just our friggin machines as carry-on. Maybe we`ll get lucky and they will loose them for us. We could put a claim on insurance and buy wool with the cash. Here we come Bets !!!!!

A question for Bets and Benne Re: the sweater machine
|
Thank you Libby......I`ll have to pay more attention to those points that you mentioned. May I ask what is FCEK? Is this a place where I can find tips for the use of the machine? Hopefully, someday I`ll be able to post one of my accomplishments from the machine. Evelyn

Pond`s or not?

Hello Everyone Haven`t posted for a while but I read all your words every day. I have to add my 2 cents worth regarding the face creams.
For many years I was a nurse working with burn patients. Our specialists recommended them to use Nivea cream and nothing else on their burns after they had healed. The specialists also told the nurses that the only thing we should be putting on our skin was a mild cream with sunscreen in it.
I have very soft blemish free skin and I use Olay daily facial towelettes and an Avon cream with a low number sunscreen in it, every day.
I was a Clinique user for a few years paying an enormous price for their creams. Then, my brother-in-law who owns a company that sells the containers to all these cosmetic companies told me that the little jar of Clinique that I was paying $53.50 Cdn. for had really cost 17 cents to produce. That was my last jar of Clinique and I went back to my nursing experience for advice.
Hope this helps everyone make an informed decision. The best advice is to go with whatever works for you but you don`t have to mortgage the house to have nice skin at any age.
Just picked up a new pattern book for felting called Pursenalities. It has some beautiful bags in it. Bye for now......Evelyn

Would anyone have a few balls of Highland wool yarn colour #1300Lime Ice that they would consider selling to me. I`m 3/4 of the way through my knitting and I`m out and they don`t have any more in that colour. I`m desperate. I tried the area on this site for selling and swapping yarns but found no interest. Thanks.....Evelyn
