More knitting help needed!
|
Just pull the right stitch over the left stitch and that will leave you with only one. The number of stitches being bound off doesn`t matter.

A yarn for CSI

That`s right along the same line of what I thought too... and the dark spotted ones make me think of damp corners... lol

I`ve been reading here daily (when home) and learning a tremendous amount from you all for a long time now. Something like a year and a half to two years... lol I`ve been thinking I should speak up for pretty much all that time, but I`m kind of a coward. Yes, I know that`s silly, since this is such a great group of knitters! I feel like I know many of you, so it`s only fair that I stop lurking in the shadows. I`ve only been knitting since June `05, when I learned a basic cast-on and knit stitch from my Mom when I visited the west coast for a couple days. From there I had to learn more over the phone and from online sources. I can`t read a pattern to save my life, but I`ve managed to figure how to make a lot of things my own way. I thought I knit Continental up until my family reunion this summer when my Mom and sister told me different. They didn`t really know what to call "my way" though.. lol Combination maybe. I feed the yarn from the left, but they informed me that I "throw" the yarn. Anyway, I wanted to sort of introduce myself and say Thank You to all of you for all the cool stuff I`ve learned from you!! I love Elann! and I love Elann chat! Maybe one of these days I can work up a bio, since I`m clearly planning to stick around a while... lol

Thank you ALL for the warm welcome! I don`t think the stockings were Ugg inspired, since I`m out of the loop enough that I`m not sure what Uggs are... lol It`s possible I saw them somewhere and the picture stuck in my head though. I have lots of ideas floating around in my head from things I`ve seen. The only problem is getting a rope around the one I need when I need it.
The afghan is in five colors, yes, and No Seams! I hate seams, even though I do have to do them sometimes to get what I want. I knit each square with one skein of Sonata, then picked up stitches along the edge of that one for the next square and "grafted" (not sure if that`s the right term) in along the edge of the square next to the one I was on. It took 30 skeins. Fortunately I only ran short on one skein and the skein I borrowed from ended up being sufficient for another square. I matched the size of each square to the first. I could have a lot of trouble explaining my methods, since I`m often going on pure instinct... lol! I have a lot of other finished projects I`d love to show (off) but I don`t want to flood the sidebar.
The stockings are a quick knit, once I got one finished that I was satisfied with, I just matched measurements for the rest. I have all but the last one up on my blog, if you want to see them bigger.

We got robbed yesterday while we were home!
|
We were burglerized recently also, late at night. Someone came through the whole subdivision going through everyone`s vehicles and taking anything easily portable and easy to sell, I suppose. No one here locks much of anything, though I suppose they do now. My sister-in-law`s purse was in their van along with their digital camera... she`s been running back and forth to the bank to stop checks for a couple weeks now.
the scary thing is that I think I may have scared him away when I took my dog out. I`m a night owl, so I know I was awake when he came through, but I didn`t hear anything that sounded off. He never touched my brother`s work van, which is full of tools and stuff, which is the reason I think I may have scared him away. It made it just a tad bit nerve wracking to take my dog out late for a bit.

Do I feel clever, or what??
|
Very clever, Billie! I`m wishing I could come up with something that brillient for wrapping paper right now. As it is, I might end up using newspaper and though I know my family isn`t going to care, I`d still like to come up with something nicer. Tying with yarn though, now that is something I should be able to manage. :)

Chainette yarn "splice?"
|
Does anyone else do this... I`ve never seen it mentioned here. When I reach the end of a ball with chainette yarn, I take a yarn needle and thread the start of the new ball up inside the end of the one I`m finishing to make a nearly invisible splice. My Dad taught me to splice nylon ropes that way when I was a kid, so I guess that`s why it was a natural thought to me.
I`ve done this every time I use chainette yarn and haven`t had any trouble yet. It`s not as perfect as spit-splicing wool, but I`m not crazy about a lot of wool, so this comes in handier to me.
I did write a bio - does anyone know if it`s any use sending it yet, or if I may as well wait till Elann`s vacation is over? Also, does the picture for that need to be sized the same way as for the sidebar? I didn`t find that information when I looked.

Chainette yarn "splice?"

Great tutorials there! I didn`t watch the video, since I avoid those on dial-up usually, but I`ll remember the pictures on that first one. It`s not the same, but a similar idea. I don`t run the yarn back into itself, but just one end inside the other. Thanks for the links!

Thanks Jayne,
I tried hard not to write "all" about myself in my bio, since that would be just a bit much... lol

Bets, CBM, et al: Long winded thoughts on Men & Christmas
|
I agree with Benne`s bottom line. I also think it`s wonderful that people are generally able to share a rant here and find understanding from caring friends who aren`t going to blame them for venting a bit.
That said, I`d feel really blessed to have a special someone to fuss about. Being single during the holidays (when it stands out more than other times) can make a person wish even for a grunting lump on the couch... lol

With all the specialty things made for particular uses these days, it`s easy to forget that many things work in many ways. (if that made sense) lol

LOL Billie! I wasn`t quoting you... *I* said grunting.. still cracking up here! I`ll have to pass that verse writing on to Amy.
There`s something about kids and Christmas. :) Thanks!

Merry Christmas!
|
Merry Christmas! Mine was over yesterday, since I opened gifts with my brother`s family last night. The Christmas stockings I made went over really well! They had to take down their old ones and hang the new ones right away, so that seemed a sure sign that they liked them. I smiled too much and my face got sore... guess that`s all good. I even raced a cow and bowled on the Wii game with my nephew. I`ll never win that cow racing game... I have too much fun running over trees, screeching around corners, and trying to jump the fence!

People who can live without a Elann don`t know what they`re missing. Of course, they may not care either, but isn`t that a similar deficiency? lol

I saw on your blog and actually liked the "scalp" showing... it`s kind of funky spikey looking. I like them both ways, thicker and thinner fur. I only wished for a few more pictures to get a better view. those are cool!
