Jawoll sock yarn
|
I`m having trouble with this brand of yarn as it is so thin and I made a swatch and determined that I am getting 8 1/2 st per inch using a size 2 dpn, my problem is that when I try to knit in the round the cast on stitches stretch and leave gaps really bad, is there another type of cast on stitches I could use for socks. Thanks for any suggestions.

cotton/wool yarn
|
Will the ends stay "put" with 80% cotton and 20% wool yarn? I have read that sometimes cotton has to be sewn with regular sewing thread. Appreciate any help. Thanks, Carrie

cotton/wool yarn
|
A square knot-left over right, right over left? I was under the impression not to put knots in socks, am I wrong? Also, another question, I bought some cotton/wool fleece yarn that is rather thick, 5 stitches per inch, needle size:6. Is this yarn to thick for socks and if so, do they sell sock yarn in cotton/wool? Appreciate your help! Carrie

Thanks for all the information. I see what you mean about the foot feeling the stitches. I used a four, never thought to try to use smaller size, will give that a try on the next pair. I knit rather loose and on sock yarn I use a one. I`ve seen 0 advertised, where can I get the smaller sizes? Again, thanks. Carrie

Thanks to all of you for the advice.I am a mother of 2 boys and my husband has a good job.Now that my kids are in school full time I suddenly feel I need to pick a career for myself.I am 31 years old and worked retail all my life and don`t want a boss.I have not worked outside the home in 8 years. So this business will be not for money but for the love of the art. Any more advice would still be appreciated.

Old pattern-old name yarn
|
I ran across an old Workbasket magazine 1979 and saw a pattern for a man`s v-neck vest that calls for Brunswick Pomfret 4-ply Sport Yarn. My question is, is all 4-ply sport yarn the same and could I possibly use "any" 4 ply sport yarn for this project? Also, when they give the gauge and two different size needles and the smaller is for the ribbing, can I take for granted that the gauge size is for the larger needles that is for the body of the sweater? I`m not familiar with this name of yarn, well, not many names of yarn, anyway. I knit mostly socks. Thanks in advance. Carrie

I thank everyone that answered my question. This is an old pattern and it didn`t give the number of yards needed, but I have a small yarn yardage guide and it says for a man`s medium vest it takes approximately 960 yds of sport yarn, is that about right? Should I get one extra ball, just in case? I`m getting "hooked" on knitting. Thanks again, everyone. Carrie

bets, I can`t find anything on yarnyard on ourtownusa.net, could you give me a nudge along the right way? Yes, the needle size and gauge match. I sure appreciate the help I get from the knowledgable people on this website.

I`m glad to know that. Wish I had earlier. My family will soon be getting "socks of many colors" to use up what is left over from other endevors. I`m always getting such good info from this chat room. Carrie

Changing colors

I`m going to use an old pattern and it says when changing colors in ribbing, always knit first row of a different color. Does this still hold true? Carrie
