yes, update is the culprit. I had that happen recently too. I think it has to do with security issues of elann updates.

Suzann - Nice Bags!
|
Suzann, those bags are so great! I love the fish and additions you put on them, you clever girl. Yeah, I`ve got that husband around the house constantly thing going on, I need a cane, I have to bend double and moan to keep from cooking. Gotta laugh, lest we cry. ;)

Everyway Wrap Color Question
|
I love the fiddlehead green it has a depth all the way to black, spiced wine is lovely with those little bits of yellow/gold highlights and grape heather is gorgeous with the range of colors. I think the fiddlehead green and the spiced wine make me think more of nature`s seasons, so depending on coloring, I`d got with one of those two for the nature lover. Of course, this is all from my totally non-opinionated view. ;) That`s a very cool pattern, neat and like a puzzle, fun. :)

That`s such good news, Marta. She has a lot of hard work to do by just resting, like Daryl said. Keeping good thoughts and prayers headed her way!

Everyway Wrap Color Question

You know me so well.:) After I typed that, I went and looked at the colors again and thought all of them were so beautiful, really, she would like any one that you pick, maybe just go with the color that flatters her coloring the most.

Oh,bets, I`m sorry you had to tell Sugar goodbye. I know how tough that is no matter how much it is time. The horned toads are going to be out of control in your yard without Sugar riding her on them. I think you need a 4-footed friend again when you`re ready.
Hugs, Benne
P.S. I`m sure Sugar has found the Ferrell family group over the bridge by now. Don`t worry she`ll fit right in. :)

Cinquefoil packs!
|
I think this is such a great kit! What a good way to get into the baby cashmere and two color knitting. I can`t decide which color kit is my favorite, they`re all really pretty. They would also make a nice gift for a knitter for the holidays, either unknit or knit.

I ordered the claret for the coat, I love coats like this, I can wear one most of the winter. I was in Nashville getting another procedure yesterday and by the time I got home and sobered up slightly, there were four colors. That was fine, I like them all and would have been happy with any of them :)

Lacy Shawls
|
I think Shui Kuen Kozinski`s sun Ray Shawl and Luna Moth Shawl, offered in elann`s free patterns section, are two excellent shawls for beginning lace knitters. Both are beautiful, straightforward lace stitches that look great many different yarn weights.
You can knit lace, Lisa. It`s more a matter of keeping track of where you are in your stitches and rows, the knitting itself is knit, purl, yarn over, increases and decreases just like you find in other knitting.
A few things I learned the hard way: 1) always finish the row before you lay your knitting down 2) keep track of your rows with a counter or a piece of paper and pencil 3) count stitches at end of each row as beginning lace knitter - this goes for me with more complicated patterns, lace or not :) 4) use stitch markers to separate repeats and count number of stitches in each repeat after knitting it to make sure you didn`t forget a yarn over 5) use the right needles for your yarn, it might be easier to get used to lace knitting in a larger gauge yarn than a very fine, slippery laceweight 6) Have fun! Lace knitting is very addictive and for me, easier than socks :)
Good luck, we`ll help you if you hit a snag.

No, it doesn`t include the pattern. The pattern is sold at Twist Collective, the link in the description will take you to it. The pattern is a PDF download and is $6.00 USD.I have purchased Twist Collective patterns and I like the download aspect.

Cinquefoil packs!

I love that smoke black/grey kit! That was my favorite of all and it will be lovely to wear in the snow. I have stash of the baby cashmere so I do have to order the pattern. I really think these kits would be really nice gifts for knitters, maybe with a picture of the pattern and a gift certificate, paypal payment or just the cash for the pattern.
I wonder if Twist Collective has gift certificates, that way the person could have the download on their computer and receive any possible corrections in email. I have had some email corrections on other Twist Collective patterns which is a really nice feature. Instead of just posting the corrections, they actually send new downloads.
I have got to stop this obsessing about getting the holidays! :) Let us know how you like your kit when it arrives, I can`t wait to see it knit up in those colors and would love to see a picture.

Lacy Shawls
|
I read posts on ravelry by beginning lace knitters who liked the Sun Ray as a first shawl. I think difficulty with a stitch pattern is very individual. I have had some of the simplest patterns absolutely throw me for a loop but I had no trouble when I swatched the stitch pattern on the Let There Be Dragons by Sharon Winsaur. Some lace knitters who were light years beyond me were having trouble with it and I tried to explain it to them. Totally shocked me that I got it. Our brains are funny things. :)

Knitting Retreats on Salt Spring Island
|
Alice, I am so looking forward to seeing you and Mark and coming back next year. These retreats are one of the best things I`ve ever done for myself, I can`t describe just how much I love going. It is just wonderful and I love my elann and retreat friends so much, it`s balm for a knitter`s soul. :) I really hate that I missed that dyeing retreat, Les told me she really loved it and we like the same stuff.
