Bets

Yes, Bets, I saw that news report. When I saw the shirt I was boiling mad. I wouldn`t use that shirt to polish my car. Or any other shirt they make. I remember the Chinese shirt. I could not figure out what they were trying to accomplish. Racism and prejudice are always ugly, no matter the form. I guess they figure the more offensive they are, the more junk they`ll sell. AF has been offending me for years and I have not stepped foot in their stores in at least ten years. I guess we`re not their target shopper Bets. Thank God. Good for Grandma setting a precedent and good for DD- buying her own clothes and recognizing a poor value. Family unity is a great thing.
I think it`s time for me to rip off another scathing email. I fired one off to HBO after watching 5 minutes (and turning off) of "Deadwood" Sunday night. I am not a prude but there was so much gratuitous filthy language that DH and I both were totally disgusted. Some things are just bad form and there`s a lot of that out there these days. Okay, I`ve had my morning vent, back to the important stuff, like knitting and finding that book for MacChick.:} Benne

Marion, your daughter is a goddess!
|
Marion, your daughter is a knockout! So`s that sweater. Your gracious cables pattern is so pretty. I like the short sleeve version as much as the long sleeved one. What yarn did you use for this top? Have you had your knitting lesson with DD yet? I`ll bet seeing your lovely creation for her will give her some incentive and a new respect for Mom`s talents. Benne

Mustang Judy, did you love it?

Wonderful cardigan, Judy. I`ve decided you can pick out all my patterns. :} I love everything you`ve knitted. Maybe I should come to St. Augustine and meet you and maybe talk you out of a sweater or two. lol Benne

I like your nanny`s sweater. What a shame it would have been to have to rip it out. Your nanny is very cagey. Now she gets two garments. ;} Benne

Little kids and colors
|
My youngest DD was a red, red and more red kid and she hasn`t changed. She`s now 32 and it`s still her favorite. Oldest DD always liked yellow and green and those are still her colors. As far as how your kids look in the grocery, my DD`s (who were 6 and 10) and I all wore vampire teeth in the grocery. We smiled and scared a poor little stockboy to death. lol Benne

14 sts and 18 rows gauge
|
Hi bella-bruni,
I checked on the web and saw that Maggiknits.com`s website is due soon. There are several shops that sell her kits and some sell the yarn by the bag. Do a google search and you might find your yarn. You could also check some of the yarn manufacturers websites and find a compatible yarn. knitrowan.com has linen and cotton yarns but I don`t if they`ll work for your gauge. If I think of anything else I`ll post here. Benne

Brilla question - how much does it grow?
|
Hi Bea,
I am hooked on Brilla too. I looked at my pattern books from Filatur di Crosa and most of the Brilla patterns call for a crab stitch or single crochet edge on the neck and arms (for sleevless tops). So I think Eileen has the right idea. I haven`t knit it up yet but I plan to sc around the edges for stability. Benne

I`m with you Fran, I needed a laugh, been working on TAXES all day. YUCK!!! I have been mightily resisting the Arucania cotton all day, I keep going back and looking at it, thinking, now, now , just step away from the yarn, that`s right, take your hand off that mouse and log off before you do something your bank account will regret. I`ve been on a cotton bender lately but with all of you telling me how much you like the yarn, gotta have it, you know you deserve it, it`ll be more expensive in the future, how can you pass up such a great deal, I`ll probably cave and order some. Now all I need to know is, what color should I get? Benne

Araucania

Okay, kids, I`m still on the fence about this yarn. Maybe I`ll hold back with the rest of you until all the good stuff is gone. I really want the natural but I have got to stop ordering natural. I have ivory, alabaster, cream, tan, etc. The other side of me wants the red and the purple and the apricot and the gold and on and on. I being strong. I have lots of yarn. Listen to me trying to talk myself out of it. I have to save my money for Maryland where I plan on being as outrageous as Theresa and Eileen will enable me to be. I think that means I`m in big trouble. lol Benne

Casual Cables Done
|
Hi, The casual cables pattern is for sale on this site. It`s an Effectiveness by Design pattern. I`m also working on it and it is a great pattern. Lots of fun. That MacChick is the clever one. I haven`t done from the top down before either but now I may try it. Look in the biography section at farmin`garmon bio. She shows hers in progress. Benne

"My Valuable Yarn Guide"
|
Hi Marion and all,
I bought a new My Valuable Yarn Guide published 2003 Spring/Summer on sale several months ago at One Fine Yarn. I checked just now and they now longer have it. I have seen it some other places but it is quite expensive (over $40). I had an old one I bought in the early 80`s with a lavender cover. The new one is light green. Marion, if you would like to see it I will mail it to you. According to the inside cover page this book is published twice each year, once in the spring and again in the fall. There is absolutely no mention of who publishes or compiles this book. They do say the patterns may be copied and freely distributed. I`ll watch for it on other sites and try to remember where I saw it. Benne

I am a woman of great restraint
|
Okay, picture this, I MUST have the income taxes finished and to the CPA on Monday. It`s Thursday night and I have been working on the damn thing all week. DH comes home and says, "I have this new program that must be on the computer before Wednesday because we are getting satellite version DSL installed then. I say (in a perfectly reasonable voice) "Can`t it wait until I get through?" DH testily replies, "Oh, it`ll only take an hour." So I say "fine" and get up from the computer where I have ALL of 2003 checking, investment, and tax info. It only took an hour all right, an hour to completely wipe out ALL of my info! Then, because it also wiped out everything else, DH has to drive to Nashville, get disks from the office, do downloads from the internet, go to a computer store, etc. This takes approximately 8 more hours because the interstate is at a standstill for miles because of construction and blasting. I am at home, unable to do anything about this whole mess and unable to even log onto the internet and blow off steam with all of you. So I go outside and rake leaves out of my flowerbeds, prune the roses, take the dogs for a walk and try not to call a divorce lawyer immediately. When he finally got home, he had bought a NEW financial program which he promptly installed and I had to learn BEFORE I could start inputting info again. All I said to him in a very calm voice was, "This could not have come at a worse time." By the time he got through putting the computer back together again (imagine you just reformatted your hard drive and had to start from scratch), it was SATURDAY!!! I spent all day and night Saturday and all day today (I got up at 7AM and even missed Mass) until 6:30 PM getting all of the tax stuff done. I finally finished, poured myself a vodka tonic with a twist of lime and said,"I`m not hungry and I`m not cooking." He seemed very contrite and just a little bit worried that I could smell his fear. LOL (With a nod to Bets) Believe me, if I`d had that ax when I found out he`d wiped out all that info, it wouldn`t have been pretty. Patricia, now I really DO know what set Lizzie Borden off! LOL
