ecasey - your crochet top is fantastic!

Great looking crochet top Eileen. You know in the 70`s I might have worn that without the lining. Just would have depended on where the motifs ended up. lol It really does look terrific. Benne

Just a heads up in case you didn`t notice. The charcoal Quachua is going. I have debated about this yarn but I am going to resist. Such strength of character, such resolve, I know you`re impressed. ;} Benne

Patricia, did you get your White Buffalo?
|
Did you get your WB? Do you like the lilac and dark burgundy? I thought they looked great together and will make a very classy "Not your Mother`s coat". Or am I just so in love with the lilac I think it would look great no matter what? ;} Do we need to start sending DH stray skeins yet or have you hidden your stash? lol Benne

I`ll be interested in your opinion on the WB. I have not gotten into it yet as I am trying to use a little self-discpline and actually finish my casual cables alpaca sweater before I start something else. It`s not been easy to resist though. I had to put the box away where I can`t see it to keep myself out of it. I guess I`m as bad as your DH. ;} I keep getting this hilarious picture of each of us sending him a skein of yarn so that one day the mailman delivers like 10-12 boxes of yarn to him out of the blue. I would love to see the look on his face if that happened. lol It probably wouldn`t help, he`d just get into your stash again to see what he wanted to coordinate with HIS new yarn! It sounds like he been bitten with the knitting bug. I have an article on the knitting bishop )the same one mentioned in the post today) somewhere that he might like to see. If you think he would, I`ll send it to you. You can e me at benneferrell@mindspring.com with your address. Who knows, I might have to send your DH a surprise for your sake! Benne

charcoal Quechua is going fast

You are obviously trying to win the enabler of the day award Cate. It almost worked! I think I will wait until the quechua comes back. I have sooo much highland wool and uros plus I already got the augergine and alabaster quechua AND the White Buffalo AND the cotton. You can see I`m severely deprived. Maybe I do need that charcoal after all! lol Benne

This Is What It`s All About
|
I am Piglet, I suspected as much but then I took the quiz point mousse mentioned above. I have Winnie nightshirts, flannel pajamas, pullover, socks and I sometimes watch the Winnie the Pooh cartoon program. I refuse to grow up and act like an adult because a lot of the adults I know are either boring or just plain mean and grumpy. lol Benne

Oooh, oooh, you girls are all bad to the bone. I have never seen such blatant enabling. I am remaining strong at this point but who knows, I could cave at any moment! Bets, it`s good to know if I miss it I can grovel at your doorstep and satisfy the craving for charcoal. As for you Miss MacChick - Theresa, Marion, Eileen and Bets all have my address and I`ll be willing to bet you can`t pry a word out of them about it, not even for a huge stash bribe. I`ll not torture you further with the details of the ruby and butter highland wool I`ve got under lock and key. Just remember, Ann promised us more. But if for some reason, like temporary insanity or an attack of unbelievable generosity (also called temporary insanity) and I decide I don`t want all that ugly Ruby and Butter - I`ll give you first crack at it. If Ann doesn`t get ruby again I`ll add a codicile to my will that you get the ruby if I haven`t used it.lol Benne

"Bishop`s" knit lace shawl
|
There is an article about Bishop Rutt in Knitter`s magazine #9. It is the one about Shawls and I`ve seen it go for $85-100 on ebay. The article talks about knitting history and Bishop Rutt`s book, The History of Handknitting, but doesn`t give any patterns. Maybe knittinguniverse.com can help you find any of his patterns they have published or know have been published. Good luck on your search! Benne

Sneaky Ann and Benne!
|
Can`t slip anything past you Eileen. Thanks for the kind remarks everyone. Question MacChick, would that be the Cher in black leather bustier and garter belt singing "If I Could Turn Back Time" to a shipload of gorgeous young sailors or the Cher that`s a witch? Thought I`d better ask! LOL Ann`s baby`s picture is beautiful. I love seeing that sweet little face everytime I open the chat page. And yes, Rita Coolidge is part Cherokee. I worked with her and Kris Kristofferson back when their daughter Casey was a baby (and they were still married)and she is incredibly beautiful and a very nice lady. Kris isn`t too bad either. lol Benne

Watercolor camisole and yardage requirements
|
I just got my watercolor camisole pattern that Ann mentioned. I think I`ll make this pattern for myself since I require no additional support other than the muscles of my chest wall (if you get my drift). ;} The yardage requirements are not listed in the pattern description on the site but if anyone is interested in making this pattern and want the yarn requirements you can e me at benneferrell@mindspring.com and I`ll look it up for you. Enlarging Patterns
|
Welcome Marie! I too am a "blind follower" as Elizabeth Zimmerman called those of us who really want to work from a detailed pattern. Hey, what difference does it make if we are having a good time knitting. Besides, a lot of the creativity is simply making something out of some sticks and string. See you`re already jumping out changing a pattern. Good for you. I`ve found all of these hotshot knitters have given me a lot more confidence to change a pattern to suit me and rethink how I want my project to look. They must be rubbing off on us.;} Happy knitting, Benne

Sneaky Ann and Benne!

EmmyLou is fabulous! I too worship at the throne of EmmyLou. I wore out lots of her records on vinyl and "Boulder to Birmingham" is still one of the absolute best songs ever recorded by anyone. When I listen to her in the car I have the volume so loud I have to roll the window down so my ears don`t bleed and I`m singing to the top of my lungs! It`s a good thing no on can hear me.LOL Benne

Peter is the web wizard in my book! Your website is great. It`s so well organized and easy to use. It also has the best photos and highest quality graphics of any of the knitting sites I`ve seen. I actually look at all the photos that come up on each section of the webpage and admire the qualilty of the photos and the arrangement of the pages. So when can he go to lunch? LOL Benne

UFO finally DONE!!
|
Comgrats on finishing your UFO. That`s such a great feeling. You`re on a roll if you`ve got the yarn ends woven in. I hate that part. How far are you on your casual cables? I`m in the stockinette portion of the front and I really have enjoyed this pattern. I haven`t started a Quechua project yet. Be sure and keep us posted on it. I don`t think there`s anything for it Jean, you`re going to have to make DH something. Don`t guess you could get away with just a hat so you can get back to your stuff. ;} My DH doesn`t wear sweaters but he keeps me knitting and sewing things for him to wear hunting. He bow hunts deer and turkey and I have made some of the oddest garments for him. All kinds of net face masks, shirts, baclavas, even camo things for his 4-wheeler. Just recently he said something about when am I going to knit him something so I guess something in earth tones or camo are in my future. The thing about knitting for him is he always comes up with something there`s no pattern for and I end up taking a basic designa and modifying it. The last thing was a fit as you go deal. You should have seen the fitting process. It was a baclava, dickey combo andI was trying to keep stitches on the needles and he`s pulling on it saying, can`t you just do this here and here with no concept of what`s involved. What a hoot! I think some bulky yarn that goes really fast would be perfect for your DH`s sweater. lol Benne

We`re all HIP!!
|
Isn`t it great that more people are knitting! That enables the yarn companies to bring all of us more and more new yarn for our stashes. ;} Marion, your daughter could not have a better teacher. You could be teaching classes with the way you knit and design. I wish sometimes my mother had been able to teach me knitting. She did teach me to sew and do fine embroidery. I still have all of those gorgeous Barbie and baby doll clothes she sewed using satins, velvets and furs and all kinds of luxury fabrics. She saved scraps and bought tiny remnants of special materials just for my doll clothes. We were a blue collar/farm family so money was tight and she made every little scrap count. I had the absolute best doll clothes ever and was the envy of all the other little girls. She never had a pattern but she sure had style. I miss my mom a lot and wish I could knit for her. It`s great that you two will be able to share this. And just think, she realized just how hip you are! Benne

WAHEY!!!!!!!!!!!
|
I refuse to divulge how much I`ve spent here, in fact, I`m afraid to add it up! But then, having gotten into serious knitting in the last couple of years. my stash was nonexistent. Okay, not noexistent, because I am a pack rat where fibers are concerned, but my stash was definitely in need of stuffing. I am now able to pick out a project without having to order yarn. Such luxury! As long as we`re knitting, hey we`re producing and NEED yarn. Okay, Scullyknits, give it up. What color Brilla did you order? My curiousity is killing me. You and Eileen enabled me to order the Brilla Sand to make a White Lies jacket. I was going to get ivory but I realized what a mess I am and knew it would be dirty immediately. Besides I already ordered the alabaster in Quechua. Theresa, we desperately need a voice of reason around here and you seem to be very qualified. I like the way you think. It`s all a matter of priorities.:} Benne

thinking ahead - what to do with leftover Peruvian and sample skeins
|
I`m way ahead of myself here but I`ve been thinking about ways to use those wonderful leftovers from the Peruvian yarns I know I`ll have just as soon as I get really busy knitting. I also have been kicking around ways to use the sample skeins. There is a neat free pattern for a felted purse/bag at angelhairyarn.com. It is the LYS in Nashville and I`ve seen examples of these bags at the shop. They are beautiful and easy to make. I`m thinking about combining my nice wools and the same weight wools from the sample skeins and making a bag. I`ve also been looking at a simple vest pattern that would be really pretty with even a row of two of the sample skeins mixed with the Peruvian. Kind of a riot of color and texture. What do you think? Anyone else have any ideas? I`d be willing to trade colors of the sample skeins with someone if I had a color they wanted for a specific project. This could require intensive cataloging of exactly what colors I have. Yeah, like I shouldn`t be cleaning instead of cataloging yarn samples. lol Comments anyone? Benne
