Benne, beautiful peach flower. I was outside entire day in the sun. It was 15C/60F at noon.I can hear our creek under the ice running. Spring is here. SK

Thank you, SK. It is a tree that volunteered after I put up a bushel of peaches in the freezer several years ago. I carried the peels and pits and threw them out by the barn figuring some little critter would like a peach. :-} One hardy little peach seed took root and grew and is now over 10` tall. It had peaches last year for the first time. I was so surprised. :-}
I`m so glad you had a day in the sun. It must feel glorious to have those temperatures after your hard winter of snow and ice. I hope you have water soon!

I`m happy to see that somewhere there is Spring. Another day of rain and more rain here on the "wet coast" of BC.

Hasn`t it been just NASTY lately Gaile? I so got my hopes up on Tuesday, even though there was a cold wind. And it has been so grey and monsooning ever since. Just longing for the sun to come out. Just once!

Bri, I`ll start your peach tree this summer. That way it`ll be a good size when your mountain home is ready. :-} T, only one sprouted out of a bushel, as far as I know, unless they are just over the hill in that big holler, carried off by critters. Ooh, that`s a neat thought, peach trees growing all over the place just waiting to be discovered. :-}

Benne: We were working outside in the warm sun entire day. We used axe to cut a hole in the creek (the ice was over a foot thick). We put the pump in, and it is pumping. The creek started running first time late afternoon yesterday. The water runs on the top of the ice because of the warm temp, all the snow from miles and miles of forest is melting in a hurry and roaring down. I asked BB why do we need a hole, the creek is running. He said that the pump has to be submerged in the deeper water, that`s why a hole is needed. Now, we have creek water.
Our well is still frozen, might take a while, I think. We will insulate our well better this summer, so it will not happen again.
I was so tired yesterday, went to bed at 7pm and got up early this morning and finished the edging and bind off. Will block the shawl today. I wish it was knitted with BS or BC. The cotton is really not for a swallow tail. SK

Oh my goodness,SK! You and BB must have felt Eskimos cutting a hole in the ice. That`s very hard work! But worth it if you have water.
I did not knit on my shawl much yesterday, worked on taxes. Maybe tonight when I finish taxes, I`ll get back to nupping. ;-} Funny we both used something like cotton and hemp for the Swallowtail when we both love wool and other fibers best. :-}

Oh, SK, I am so glad you now have running water again! I know what it is like to live without running water!
Benne and Shui Kuen, thank you both for letting us read about your experiences with the Swallowtail in cotton and linen. I think when I make this scarf, I will make it in an animal fiber!
Benne, I wish you luck finishing that shawl. I have never seen you @#$% over knitting like this before!

T: it is a lot of time for finishing a shawl, do use some nice yarn that you like. I haven`t wash the shawl yet, may be it will soften, so far it looks and feels like fish net.

Gotta love those submersible pumps!! So glad that you have a new water source other than hoping for enough rain water. And it all takes such time away from your knitting!

Bets: we have this well for over 20 years. We always insulate the well with straw around. And then put all the cuttings and braches on top, make it looks like a beaver house. Somehow, this year, northern side of the well is completely exposed to the element. I don`t know why? We have a very good source of water from the rock, people around without water in the dry summer, we have ice cold good mineral water. We just have to be careful next winter.

Les: we have this pump for many years. We use it to water our garden. We have a network of several hundred yards of hose to water our rock garden, shady garden, all the garden around the house, and up 100 yard to the garage nearby asparagus garden.... It is a heavy duty pump. We even have several hundred yards of hose from waterfall to my garden running by gravity. It drips non stop onto a big flat rock next to my rock garden. Because it was decorated with all kinds of drift wood, people always surprise where the water come from.
The Waterfall is roaring right now. SK

SK...i can picture your creek, snow, forest and gardens vividly. your word pictures are so beautiful. I am glad spring has begun for you and so glad you have water again. I`ve had to carry water from our creek too, to flush toilets, water animals, wash..etc. when our well pump goes out (each time we lose electrical power) hard, hard work. I hope you can enjoy a nice walk outside today and a warm up by the stove or fireplace with some tea and a new knitting project.
