I am searching for a "no-brainer baby blanket. Am a sort of beginner knitter. I hve seen this blanket and it is sort of checkerboard patter witha 5" or so border. Supposed to be an old patten. Am willing to pay for the pattern if you may share it. Thanks. . .

I don`t know that one but I have a wonderful "no brainer" pattern that I`ve used many times. It is mainly stockinette stitch with slip stitch "windows" and a garter stitch border. It`s so easy and makes an impressive blanket. Non-knitters always think I did something amazing when it`s really easy. LOL Let know if you`d like the pattern.

Hi Tam, Me, too! I am collecting "no brainer" patterns (lol) that I can do in between my "watch every stitch or else" patterns...I`m at charlipup-fff@worldnet.att.net. BTW, I have a crocheted "no brainer" baby blanket that everyone raves about, if you or anyone else is interested, sc, dc, and drop stitch, doubled yarn so it goes fast and is thick and plushy... Fran

Marion, check here, they have quite a few free patterns. I was impressed with the variety of freebies, but I didn`t see any photos. How is your sense of adventure?

Lionbrandyarns.com also has a bunch of free patterns. They are written for their yarns, but you can always substitute.

i`m looking for a cute baby blanket that won`t take too long but is interesting. would like to use some soft/washable yarn. i`m making one with plush right now in seed stitch. it`s soft yarn, but a pain if you drop a stitch.

Are you Judy from Village Crafts?? Well, hi anyway.
This site has tons of free patterns:

There are several nice cottons/cotton blends here at Elann that would make nice baby blankets (Adhoc Maxi, Gedifra Beauty Cotton, and esp. Online Ravenna).

My brother`s wife is expecting their first baby and it was requested that I make them a baby blanket. Of course not just any blanket will due so I`m gonna design it. Do you think that the coffee bean and the tapestry blue are too dark for a little boys blanket?
I`m gonna do something similar to what I did for Syd.
I`m gonna knit a center square that says
Now I lay me down to sleep, I pray the Lord my soul to keep,
Angels watch me through the night, `Til I wake with morning light.
And then pick up stitches around the edge of the square and do a lacy pattern.
The back ground color will be in the brown and the writing and lace will be in the blue.
what do you all think?

I love the color combo, little boy clothes are adorable. Your verse might disappear if the text and the background are similar in value. Think about adding a little mocha cream or bisque in there somewhere.

Sounds beautiful Libby. I really like the idea of the verse. It makes it very personal. Will you embroider it on? I don`t know where you get all the time to do these things. I guess it`s true that if you want something done, ask a busy person and it wil be done. That`s you. Take care and make sure you post a picture of the blanket when it`s done. Evelyn

It sounds VERY pretty, Libby, but I would just watch what Bets says and make sure you have enough contrast for the lettering to show.

Thanks gals! I always know who to go to for my color questions. I`m gonna get the nougat, coffee bean, and the blue of todays yarn. I was thinking of doing the blanket in the sock it to me yarn but that might be too itchy and they live in Florida. So I`m gonna do it in the cotton.

Love the color combo and particularly the verse. How are you going to do the lettering?

The last two lines of your prayer are new to me, and MUCH better than the ones I grew up with: "If I should die before I wake, I pray the Lord my soul to take." Good grief!

Mary,
Those were the ones that I grew up with too! and I was like "how morbid is that? I cant stitch that on a baby blanket" So I googled for a better ending.
