Wait a second here! I got lost in the last conversation about your DGS`s cardi!!! Did I misunderstand...did you use a varigated that gave the stripes? The lace up tank pic shown on the sale page doesn`t have the same self-striping effect?!!?
`Just curious???

Billie, sorry if my post was not clear. When I made that cardi there was no red, white and blue colorway available yet - actually, the variegated esprit offers were quite different form the more recent ones (and very pretty too, but I digress). I went back to my purchase records, and found that the variegated I used was called Nautical Blues (white and several shades of blue). I striped it with solid red, and used solid navy blue for all the edges. Clear as mud now? lol If you`d like a larger picture, I don`t mind e-mailing it to you. LMK.

I am glad to have this clarification about how you made you cute and pretty sweater. I`ll see how is goes with the Fourth of July that I got yesterday when I knit into a toddler`s sweater. I can also add some larger stripes like you did, and already have the dark blue for the edge. Thanks Billie for your question, and Marta for the explanation. Jamie

You`re welcome, Jamie. That was a study in experimentation for me - first time knitting in the round from the bottom up, improvising as I went along, first time picking up stitches for the sleeves at the shoulder and knitting on dpns to the wrist - a lot of firsts, and luckily it turned out cute and useful for a long time. If you`d like a closer look, I can e-mail you the normal-sized picture. Let me know.
Happy knitting,
Marta

What is the saying, "necessity is the mother of invention" or something like it? I got an idea in my mind, and (in a small package) learned a lot of techniques I needed for other projects. Luckily it worked!

Marta, Thanks for all the suggestions! How did you manage to knit in the round and then steek??? with the Esprit. Maybe the stitches do stay in safely like wool does, I don`t know. I think I can pick up sts at the shoulder line and knit in the round to the wrists; sounds like a great idea. My sweater will also be inventing along the way. Thanks for all the information. Jamie

Jamie, sorry I just saw your message. I did not steek- I am still too scared of that! lol I should have said "knit in one piece to the armholes" instead of "in the round". Sorry...you can see how much more careful I need to learn to be with terminology. Yikes...The sleeves were knit in the round on dpns from the shoulder down. I did not have two circulars of the proper size, so I delayed trying that technique, plus I had to confront dpns at some point... If you`d like to take a closer look, I`ll be glad to e-mail you the regular-size picture. My addy is martardiasatgmaildotcom.
Happy knitting,
Marta
